The Great British Bake Off features celebrity bakers from a variety of backgrounds competing in 2024. The show is very popular in Britain, where viewers tune in each week to watch the contestants' challenges and triumphs. It is currently in its fifteenth season.

Under the close supervision of Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, each challenge calls for a combination of technical expertise, inventiveness, and the capacity to perform under pressure. This competition has eliminated five bakers as of October 23, 2024.

In Week 2, Kent-born nail technician Hazel Vaughan, 71, and retired university lecturer Jeff, 67, were the first two eliminated bakers. Jeff withdrew due to health issues, meanwhile Hazel's biscuit creation disappointed the judges.

After a difficult Bread Week, 37-year-old Willenhall resident John Mincher left the show in Week 3. In the caramel-themed Week 4, 29-year-old farm manager Mike Wilkins was eliminated.

Andy Ryan, 44-year-old Essex car mechanic, was the last contestant to go home during Pastry Week on The Great British Bake Off.

Eliminated bakers and their journey so far in The Great British Bake Off

The eliminated contestants in The Great British Bake Off 2024 faced challenges that tested their technical skills, creativity, and calmness under pressure. Hazel Vaughan, one of the first bakers to leave, struggled with Biscuit Week when her ambitious puppet theater failed to impress the judges.

Jeff’s departure was eliminated next. In his final moments on the show, he shared:

“It’s frustrating to leave because of my health, but I have to take care of myself first.”

Jeff's struggle was evident throughout the show, but he chose to step back due to health concerns before the challenge could fully play out.

John Mincher faced Bread Week next, a tough part of the competition. His loaf lacked the proper texture, which ultimately led to his exit. Paul Hollywood was critical of his bread’s inconsistency, stating:

“It’s underbaked, and the flavor hasn’t developed as it should.” John accepted the critique, mentioning, “I knew bread would be my downfall. But what an experience this has been.”

Mike Wilkins’ downfall during Caramel Week was similarly dramatic. His caramel creations lacked the balance of sweetness and texture, resulting in his elimination. Paul and Prue both agreed that his creations were too dense.

“I tried my best, but caramel got the better of me.”

Finally, Andy Ryan was eliminated in Pastry Week. He faltered with the technical aspects of the task, and his pastry was not as flaky or light as the judges required.

The remaining bakers in the competition of The Great British Bake Off

Five bakers have been eliminated, with seven remaining in The Great British Bake Off. Meanwhile, Georgie Grasso is a 34-year-old pediatric nurse from Carmarthenshire. She continues to impress the judges with her thoughtful baking and compassionate personality.

Illiyin Morrison, a 31-year-old birth trauma specialist midwife from Norfolk, is another strong contender. Known for her precision and calm demeanor under pressure, Illiyin has consistently delivered quality bakes.

Nelly Ghaffar, a 44-year-old palliative care assistant originally from Slovakia, has also gained attention for her creative flavor combinations and innovative bakes. The youngest contestant, Sumayah Kazi, 18, is a dentistry student from Lancashire. Despite her young age, she has shown remarkable maturity and skill, impressing the judges with her technical abilities.

Finally, Gill Howard, 53, a senior category manager from Lancashire, brings her years of experience to the tent, consistently producing well-executed bakes.
