The Great British Bake Off returned with series 15, with the premiere hitting the UK TV screens on September 24, 2024, while the second episode aired on October 1. The summary of the episode, as per Channel 4, reads:
"The bakers face the challenges of biscuit week, making Viennese sandwich biscuits in the signature challenge before making their own biscuit puppet theatre in the showstopper."
The second episode, where two players were eliminated from the show, saw the contestants competing in Biscuit Week. Hazel, the oldest player in the competition was eliminated after she failed to impress the judges in Signature Bake, Technical Challenge, and the Showstopper. Jeff also departed from the show during the Technical Challenge as he had been unwell since the previous week.
In the US, the schedule for the show is slightly different as the premiere episode aired on September 27, 2024, and the second episode will be aired on Netflix on October 4, 2024. The Great British Bake Off features 10 episodes, and the 10 contestants who remain after the second episode are Andy, Christian, Dylan, Georgie, Gill, Illiyin, John, Mike, Nelly, and Sumayah.
Returning judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will taste and rate the amateur bakers for this year. The show also welcomes back hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond. Alison became the host of The Great British Bake Off last year after the departure of former host, Matt Lucas.
What happened in episode 2 of The Great British Bake Off 2024?
After none of the contestants were eliminated during Cake Week in the previous episode, the second episode was scheduled to see two players leave the show by the end of it. The Signature Bake for Biscuit Week was a Viennese whirl, and Prue made the contestants aware that it just sounded easier as the texture of the whirl could be tricky to maneuver.
Prue expressed that she was expecting some unexpected flavors from the 12 contestants. The bakers started with the Signature Bake as the contestants made their own version of the given challenge.
- John - Irish Cream & Coffee Biscuits
- Jeff - "What’s the Matter, Are You Not Feeling Well?" Biscuits
- Illyin - Pistachio & White Chocolate Viennese Biscuits
- Christiaan - Floral Viennese Biscuits
- Georgie - Rhubarb & Custard Viennese Biscuits
- Nelly - "My First Dog" Biscuits
- Sumayah - Cheese & Blackberry Viennese Biscuits
- Mike - Malted Brown Butter & Raspberry Viennese Biscuits

In the Technical Challenge, contestants were instructed to make mint cream biscuits. Jeff departed the sets just before the challenge started as he was feeling lightheaded, thus ending his journey on The Great British Bake Off. As 12 contestants turn to 11, the rankings given by the judges to the contestants after the Technical Challenge were:
- Mike
- John
- Sumayah
- Jill
- Hazel
- Christiaan
- Nelly
- Illiyin
- Goergie
- Andy
- Dylan
The final challenge for the week was the Showstopper, in which the remaining 11 contestants were tasked to create a biscuit scene with edible puppets. The challenge became the deciding factor for the judges in terms of which contestant was to be sent home. The amateur bakers made the following dishes in the Showstopper:
- Andy, ‘If Pigs Could Fly’ Biscuit Puppet Theatre
- Christiaan, ‘Finding Home’ Biscuit Puppet Theatre
- Georgie, ‘Welsh Festival’ Biscuit Puppet Theatre
- John, ‘Welsh Adventures’ Biscuit Puppet Theatre
