The Great British Bake Off episode 4 premiered on October 15 on Channel 4. The nine remaining bakers had to compete to create the best caramel dish to claim the title of star baker of the week.
After a gruesome Caramel Week, Mike was eliminated at the end of episode 4. He failed to impress the judges with his Coffee Popcorn Mousse Cake. After his elimination, the baker reacted:
"I feel it was my time to go, I am just this little farmer who does baking in the kitchen. I feel the quality of what everyone else is doing is just breathtaking. And yes I am going to miss everyone. That's why I am sad. [Cries] One thing my mum said to me was, 'Don't cry.'"

Mike's Caramel Biscuits criticized for its bulging
In episode 4 of The Great British Bake Off 2024, the contestants had to go through a series of caramel-centric tasks. For their Signature Challenge, the bakers had to prepare caramel biscuits. They could include any flavor they wanted, however, caramel had to be the dominant flavor.
Mike presented his "Dad’s Favourite Caramel Biscuits." In his introduction, he shared that he was a farm manager, following in the footsteps of previous generations to run his family's farming business. The farmer decided to incorporate his background by mixing his homegrown flowers into his caramel biscuits.
Despite the unique touch, Judge Paul criticized the biscuit for its bulging. While the two judges agreed that its presentation "tasted lovely," Prue added to Paul's comments and suggested the baker "mind the bulge."
Mike placed 7th in the technical challenge
For the technical challenge, the contestants had to create a Pear Tart Tatin with walnut caramel ice cream. The challenge tested bakers' timing and ability to deliver crisp pastry and well-cooked pears. After the challenge, the bakers were ranked as follows:
- Georgie
- Christiaan
- Sumayah
- Illyin
- Dylan
- Nelly
- Mike
- Gill
- Andy
Mike's Coffee Popcorn Mousse Cake fell shot to amaze the judges
For the Showstopper challenge in The Great British Bake Off 2024, the contestants had to present a caramel mousse cake in episode 4. They had to ensure that the cake had at least two types of caramel and was complete with elaborate sugar work.
After a four-and-a-half-hour challenge that didn’t go as planned, Mike still managed to prepare his Coffee Popcorn Mousse Cake. Paul complimented the presentation for resembling a Christmas cake.
Prue, however, criticized Mike's mousse cake for lacking sufficient mousse. The Great British Bake Off judge said that she would be disappointed if she had purchased the cake from a shop.
Other bakers presented the following creations:
- Georgie: Glass Rose Mirror Mousse Cake
- Andy: Lonely Tree Mousse Cake
- Sumayah: Banoffee Pecan Mousse Cake
- Gill: Sticky Toffee Mousse Cake
- Nelly’: Behind Every Great Woman Mousse Cake
