The Great British Bake Off episode 6 premiered on October 29, 2024, on Channel 4. The seven remaining bakers had to compete to create autumn-inspired presentations to claim the title of star baker of the Autumn Week.
After a gruesome Autumn Week, at the end of episode 6, Nelly was eliminated after failing to impress the judges with her ‘Woman in Autumn’ Cake. After her elimination, the baker said that she was "ready to leave" as she "never ever thought" that she would make it so far in the competition.
"I know my children are so proud. It’s not to teach them to win, it is to teach them to enjoy. Don’t cry! Everyone is crying... I learnt who I am! And that I’m worthy!" Nelly said.
Noah Fielding and Alison are hosting the latest season of The Great British Bake Off. Meanwhile, Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith are the judges whom the contestants have to impress.
Nelly's performance in The Great British Bake Off 2024 episode 6
The Great British Bake Off 2024 episode 6 featured Autumn Week, where the bakers had to prepare "sweet autumn-inspired pies and transform veg into showstopping cakes."
The episode began with the Signature Bake challenge, where the contestants had to present sweet autumnal pie. Classic American pumpkin pie was the inspiration for the challenge.
However, the bakers could add any touch and flavor they wanted to their pumpkin pie. Reminding the contestants of the harvest time, Judge Paul said that he hoped the bakers would add well-balanced seasonal spices.
In the challenge, Nelly presented her ‘Out in Nature’ Pie, which had apples and plenty of poppy seeds in it. Judge Prue felt that it was an unusual pie, while Paul remarked that it had an "exquisite" filling and "flaked in the mouth." However, the judge felt that Nelly's pie needed a little longer time in the oven.
Nelly placed 5th in the technical challenge
For the technical challenge in episode 6 of The Great British Bake Off season 15, Prue informed the bakers that they had to prepare vegan parkin. She explained that it was a gingery cake that had a vegan twist to make it a little trickier.
After the challenge, the bakers were ranked with Illiyin in the first place, Georgie in the second, Sumayah in the third position, and Dylan in the fourth position. Meanwhile, Nelly, Christiaan, and Gill stood at the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions, respectively.
Nelly's ‘Woman in Autumn’ Cake failed to amaze the judges
For the final Showstopper round, the bakers were challenged to create an Autumn Festival Cake featuring seasonal vegetables. While carrot was the most popular choice, some bakers used vegetables like beetroot, spinach, and celeriac.
Nelly presented a "Woman in Autumn" cake for the Showstopper challenge, impressing Prue with its "exquisite" chocolate and avocado decorations. However, the multi-layered structure worked against The Great British Bake Off contestant, as the cake became slightly too dense under its own weight. This was one of the major reasons that Nelly was eliminated from the show.
Other bakers presented the following creations:
- Georgie: ‘Tree Trunk Scene’ Cake
- Sumayah: ‘Autumn Leaves’ Harvest Cake
- Gill: Bonfire ‘Parrot’ Cake
- Illyin: Day of the Dead Cake
- Dylan: Diwali Cake
- Christiaan: ‘Roots of Samhain’ Cake
Sumayah was crowned as the Star Baker of The Great British Bake Off 2024 week 6 for his impressive presentations in the Technical and Showstopper Challenge. Nelly finished at the bottom and was eliminated from the baking show.
Season 15 contestants who are still on the show
After Nelly's elimination, six of the 12 bakers are still competing on the show. They include Christiaan, a 33-year-old menswear designer from London, Dylan, a 20-year-old retail temp from Buckinghamshire, and Georgie, a 34-year-old Paediatric nurse from Carmarthenshire. The other contestants are Gill, a 53-year-old Senior Category Manager from Lancashire, Illiyin, a 31-year-old Birth Trauma Specialist Midwife from Norfolk, and Sumayah, a 19-year-old Dentistry Student from Lancashire
