The Great British Bake Off is back with season 15, as its first episode premiered on September 24 in the UK and September 27 in the US. Similar to the previous years, this season also consists of 10 episodes. Each episode will be rolled out weekly as 12 contestants try to become the winner of The Great British Bake Off, navigating the different themes presented to them.
The amateur bakers will try to showcase their baking skills in front of returning judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. The show is hosted by Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond. She joined the show last year after Matt Lucas decided to not continue with the presenting duties.
The Great British Bake Off was filmed in the Berkshire countryside called Welford Park. Last season, the cooking reality show was won by Matty Edgell after competing in a choux pastry signature, a lard cake technical challenge, and a celebration cake showstopper in the final.
What are the different themes of The Great British Bake Off season 15?
The amateur bakers have to bake three things each week namely the signature, technical, and showstopper. There would be some returning themes that the bakers have to work around on The Great British Bake Off like Cake, Biscuit, Bread, Caramel, Dessert, Pastry, and Patisserie, while adding two new themes, Autumn and 1970s.
In an exclusive interview with whattowatch.com on September 25, 2024, Prue explained that the 1970s as a decade was close to his heart as that's when she opened her restaurant. She also started her cooking school in 1974 and also opened her catering business in that decade.
"All of that decade, I was working really hard, but having a great time. It's also the decade my children were born and we moved to the country," stated Prue.
Week one saw contestants compete in Cake Week as the bakers were asked to work their magic on a loaf cake. For technical they were given mystery ingredients with a twist, and lastly hyperrealistic illusion cakes.
The second episode will feature the theme of Biscuit where the bakers will be asked to make Viennese sandwich biscuits. Recreate a retro, minty favorite in technical, and present puppet theatres as the showstopper.
The third episode will be Bread Week where the bakers are challenged to make savory buns and bread horns filled with delectable delights. Also, they must follow Paul Hollywood's recipe, demonstrated before them.
