The Great British Bake Off series 15 aired its fourth episode on October 15, 2024 on Channel 4. It will be available on Netflix for the US audience on October 18.

With co-hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, the show returned with Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood as the beloved judges of the competition. The latest season started with twelve amateur bakers and two bakers got eliminated so far, while the first-ever American baker Jeff quit due to a medical issue.

Week 4 was dubbed as Caramel Week and it saw one more contestant go home as the amateur bakers tried to bake their way out of the sticky situation. As per the format, the bakers went through three challenges this week: the signature bake, the technical challenge, and the showstopper.

The summary of The Great British Bake Off episode 4 reads:

"It is Caramel Week and the bakers make caramel biscuits and turn up the heat with showstopping mousse cakes. Who gets a taste of sweet success, and whose mousse cuts them loose?"

What happened in The Great British Bake Off series 15 episode 4?

While last week saw John depart in Bread Week, Caramel Week kicked off with Noel notifying the bakers that they would be making caramel biscuits for their signature bakes. The contestants could either take inspiration from existing biscuits or come up with their own ideas in order to win the judges over. The only catch being that the flavor of caramel should dominate the recipe.

Dutch baker Christiaan made Spiced Nut Stroopwafel Caramel Biscuits and Nelly prepared Good Old Times Caramel Biscuits. Both bakers were praised for their flavors but the texture on Nelly's bake failed to impress the judges on The Great British Bake Off.

Meanwhile, Sumayah named her creation Sesame Hibiscus Caramel Biscuits. Judge Paul noted that her biscuits were "not really set" but had amazing flavors.

Andy wowed the judges with his A Bit of a Fix Caramel Biscuit, while Georgie's Favourite Chocolate Bar was "really neat and nice" according to Prue. Last week's star baker, Dylan, presented Oats with Pineapple Caramel Biscuits. Illyin, on the other hand, prepared Almond Florentine Caramel Biscuits. Both bakers were appreciated by the judges for the overall look of their food preparations.

Mike baked Dad’s Favourite Caramel Biscuits and Gill presented his Fruit & Nut Millionaire Caramel Biscuits. Even though they were recognized for their flavors, the baking flaws on the biscuits left a lot to be desired from the judges' point of view.

This was soon followed by the technical challenge in which the bakers were instructed to make pear tart tatin with walnut caramel ice cream on the side. The contestants were ranked by the judges in the following order:

  1. Georgie
  2. Christiaan
  3. Sumayah
  4. Illyin
  5. Dylan
  6. Nelly
  7. Mike
  8. Gill
  9. Andy

Next was the final challenge of the week in which the bakers had to create caramel mousse cake. This was the last chance for bakers to save themselves for another week in The Great British Bake Off and here's what they made in the showstopper challenge:

  • Georgie: ‘Glass Rose Mirror’ Mousse Cake
  • Andy: ‘Lonely Tree’ Mousse Cake
  • Sumayah: ‘Banoffee Pecan’ Mousse Cake
  • Gill: ‘Sticky Toffee’ Mousse Cake
  • Nelly: ‘Behind Every Great Woman’
  • Mike: Coffee Popcorn Mousse Cake
  • Illiyin: Caramel and White Chocolate Mousse Cake
  • Dylan: Lemon Honey & Ginger Mousse Cake
  • Christiaan: ‘Tropicaramel’ Mousse Cake

Georgie managed to impress the judges with her overall performance, and the final challenge was no different as Prue stated that her mousse cake looked "very professional and eye-catching". This earned her the title of Star Baker for Week 4 on The Great British Bake Off.

Mike's disappointing week became even more miserable when Prue noted that his mousse cake had no mousse. Since Mike underperformed in the caramel week, he became the fourth baker to be eliminated from the show.

The next episode of The Great British Bake Off will see the contestants compete in Pastry Week which will be aired on October 22, 2024, on Channel 4 in the UK and October 25, 2024, in the US.
