The Mole season 2 episode 7 was released on Friday, July 5, 2024, along with episodes six and eight. It featured one of the hardest and most intense tasks of the season, as it had everything to do with defusing a ticking time bomb.
The seven contestants on The Mole season 2 episode 7 were divided into three groups, with one group having three members. While Ryan and Michael were in one group, Hannah and Muna formed the second group, with Sean, Deanne, and Neesh being the third.
Each group had to stop a time bomb from getting detonated using some mathematics. The time bombs had $10,000 stuck to them, and if the contestants were able to defuse all three, they would add $30,000 to the prize pot. However, if any of them failed, it would cost them $10,000 each.
"Beat the Bomb" challenge from The Mole season 2 episode 7 explained
The seven remaining contestants on The Mole season 2, episode 7, were taken to the city of Ipoh in Malaysia for their Beat the Bomb challenge. The host, Ari Shapiro, told them that the city was a tin mine in the past.
He then told the contestants that they would be divided into three groups and would have to defuse one bomb each. They were told that each bomb had a detonator that could only be opened after 6 kg of tin weight was put on it. Meanwhile, the mole had to sabotage their progress by making sure that the bomb went off.
The challenge in The Mole season 2 episode 7 was to figure out how much tin there was in 6 kg of tin with the help of some equations written on the wall. With the equations, the contestants had to fill up containers given to them and either add or subtract the weights to eventually get to 6 kg.
Hannah and Muna were the first ones to decode the equation and came up with 6 kg of tin, and once their detonator opened up, they were left with a red and a blue wire. However, they wouldn't know which wire to cut until the other groups opened their detonators. So, Muna and Hannah waited for the rest of the contestants.
However, the other teams were stuck and couldn't figure out how to derive 6 kg of tin from the equations. Soon, though, Neesh figured out how to do it, and he was able to open his detonator alongside Deanna and Sean. With two detonators open, the two teams decided to cut their wires after coordinating over a walkie-talkie.
It was a test to figure out who the contestants could really trust, as only one wire of the same color would detonate the bomb. So, if Neesh's team cut the red wire and set their bomb off, Hannah's team would have to cut the red wire to make sure that their bomb didn't go off. It played out that way in the episode as well.
When Neesh cut the red wire, all the teams saw their bomb blast in The Mole season 2 episode 7. This helped Hannah's team figure out that they had to cut the red wire to save their bomb, which is what they did. Hannah and Muna managed to save their money, while Neesh said that his team was the "sacrificial goat this time."
Ryan and Michael were still not able to solve their equation, so they opted to take a clue, which subtracted $5000 from the prize pot on The Mole season 2 episode 7. After figuring out the equation, they opened their detonator and were presented with one blue and one yellow wire.
Cutting the red wire saved Hannah and Muna, which meant cutting the blue wire might save team Michael. While the other teams directed them to cut the blue wire, Michael went on to cut the yellow cord, and the other contestants saw the second bomb go off.
Several contestants, including Michael's partner Ryan, suspected that he was the mole because he cut the wrong wire despite clear instructions in The Mole season 2 episode 7.
Episodes 9 and 10 of The Mole season 2 will drop on Friday, July 12, 2024, on Netflix.
