The Mole season 2 aired three new episodes this week on Friday, July 5, 2024. The installment picked up with the last episode's cliffhanger and revealed Neesh to be the person who bid the entire pot for an exemption from the upcoming elimination.
In episode 8, however, Neesh's journey came to an end, and the top six continued their climb up to the finale by competing in yet another challenge. As the cast sat down for breakfast, they realized two contestants were missing. Ari Shapiro then informed them of their challenge, which required the players to rescue Ryan and Deanna in order to have a chance to win $50,000.
The synopsis of the episode read,
"A search-and-rescue mission turns into a race against time on Penang Island. A player receives enticing offers and the wrong choice could mean game over."
The Mole season 2 contestants tasked with rescuing two of their own in episode 8
The Mole season 2 episode 8 began with the outcome of yet another exemption challenge. Nobody was safe from being sent home because neither team was able to negotiate the terms set in the previous episode. As a result, everyone took the quiz, and Neesh was eliminated.
The following day, the cast grew suspicious when Ryan and Deanna didn't join them for breakfast, but before they could process what was going on, the host, Ari Shapiro, informed them that the two had been "taken" and it was their job to rescue them.
"Morning players, Deanna and Ryan have been taken. They were randomly selected to be hidden somewhere on this island. You're gonna have to conduct a search and rescue mission. If you find and release Deanna and Ryan, you could add $50,00 to your pot," Ari said.
Shapiro further explained that the contestants could get in touch with them by calling them, but each call would cost them $5,000 from their potential winnings. He added that each phone call would only last 15 seconds, and they only had 2 hours to complete their mission.
The Mole season 2 challengers were successfully able to rescue the two contestants and made three phone calls in the process. This meant they won a total of $35,000, which brought their total to $85,000. However, the challenge raised some flags about certain contestants, including Muna and Ryan.
While Muna missed a key that would have helped rescue the players, Ryan gave vague directions to the cast members. This made the season 2 cast doubt their intentions and made them wonder if one of them was the saboteur.
After the challenge, Deanna received an envelope that told the cast members to pick one player who could potentially add more money to the pot. The envelope read:
"One player is invited to join me for lunch. Together, you must all choose who that will be. My advice is to pick the player who's the best at adding money to the prize pot. The chosen player should meet me at Bar Manchu."
Muna told The Mole season 2 cast members she believed the chosen player would have to pick between the money and an exemption. Everyone pitched as to why they should be chosen for the upcoming challenge, but collectively, the cast members didn't want to send Ryan or Muna.
Ultimately, Hannah made her way to Bar Manchu, where she met the host for the next challenge. Ari explained that the Mole had set up a feast for her. The table contained five cloches, under which there was either $10,000, $20,000, exemption, correction, or game over.
As long as Hannah didn't open the Game Over cloche, she could continue opening boxes until she decided which one she wanted to pick. The Mole season 2 host told her that the saboteur had a message for her, which was that the $20,000 was under cloche number 2. However, the cast member chose number 3, which had the $20,000.
The player then had to decide whether she would pick the $20,000 or try to get an exemption. Hannah's decision will be revealed when the next set of episodes airs on Friday, July 12, 2024, on Netflix.
