The Mole season 2 episode 4 was a rollercoaster in terms of the fluctuating prize pot. The $60,000 the cast had gathered during the exemption challenge in the last episode carried over to episode 4.

However, their money didn't last long after the contestants were taken to Kuala Lumpur for their next challenges. Once they were in their hotel, the contestants were given a choice. They could opt to watch a video of the person they suspect to be The Mole, explaining why they would make the perfect mole.

Eight out of nine players chose to watch the video, costing them $5000 each and eliminating $40,000 from the prize pot, bringing it down to $20,000. Their next challenge was to identify three guests, carrying $10,000 each, from a hoard of 60 guests. Contestants were able to collectively identify only one guest with the cash, adding only $10,000 to their pot, bringing it to $30,000.

How did the cast have $30,000 in the prize pot by the end of episode 4 of The Mole season 2?

The exemption challenge from the previous episode, which culminated in episode 4, raised the prize pot to $60,000. Michael won the exemption after the players remaining on the table wrongly voted Deanna out, thinking she had the exemption cookie. Instead, she had the $5000.

Their next hurdle was presented to them by Ari when they arrived in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Once they were all in their rooms, Ari gave them a deal they couldn't deny. He offered them tickets to a cinema hall, where they would get a private screening of the video of the person they suspect to be The Mole. These videos would feature the suspects explaining why they would be a great mole.

Eight out of the nine players opted for the ticket, which cost them $5000 each, subtracting $40,000 from the prize pot and bringing it down to $20,000. Quaylyn was the only person to opt-out, saving $5000.

After watching videos of their suspects telling them why they would make a good mole, the contestants braced for their next task. They were dressed as catering staff, and their work was to identify 57 guests who weren't carrying any cash from a hoard of 60 guests, as Ari explained.

Three among them would have $10,000 in their boxes, and if identified correctly, it would add $30,000 to their prize pot collectively. The Mole season 2 players were divided into two teams, one would work in the back, while the other would work in the front and serve the guests.

The team at the back found RSVP cards indicating that the guests carrying cash would have red wine, which helped them eliminate more than half the guests who opted for white wine. Their preference on RSVP cards also said that the ones with cash had peanut allergies, which meant they wouldn't have Chicken Satay and would instead go for Veg Dumplings.

This information eliminated most of the other guests, bringing the guest count down to five. They identified the three guests by their professions stated in the clue card and came up with the final three guests.

Unfortunately, only one out of the three guests was identified correctly, and the cast only won $10,000. Adding to the already existing $20,000, the prize pot at the end of the episode came to $30,000.

The second installment of episodes of The Mole season 2, i.e., episodes 6-8, will be released on Friday, July 7, only on Netflix.
