The Mole premiered on Friday, June 28, on Netflix with its first five episodes. Following Tony Castellanos' elimination, the remaining cast members had to compete in a mission to contribute to the prize pool.
The mission was unique as it relied on the most crucial weapon of the show, the information about who they suspected to be 'the mole'. Episode five's official synopsis read,
"At a shipping container yard, the team hunts for crates of cash in a game based on honesty and trust. Later, an auction brings the irresistible advantages."
With $50,000 as the cash prize, the cast had to load crates with the prize money onto the truck with the names of their top suspects. As per the quiz the contestants took previously, there were three trucks featuring the names of three suspects: Muna, Michael, and Sean. The group unanimously chose Muna as the top suspect.
The Mole season 2: Top Suspect revealed
Episode five revealed the top three suspects based on the quiz taken by the group previously. Muna, Michael, and Sean were the top three suspects, and the group had to choose one by revealing who they suspected to be the mole. Everyone picked Muna as the top suspect, but as revealed later in the episode, they were mistaken.
The mission grants $50,000 to the prize pot if the cast loads the money onto the right truck. They were allowed to hedge the amount and divide the money among all three trucks based on their suspicions as a group. The mission was a team effort and required them to trust each other and reveal information about who they suspected was the mole.
Later, it was revealed that Michael was the top suspect in the group, and it was clear that most of them were lying to each other. All three suspected members reacted to their names being on the list. They took it as an advantage, as all three of them said they were not the mole. Ari, the host, asked Michael:
"So, what's more important to you? Winning the money for the team or keeping your suspicions to yourself."
The majority of players clearly preferred to keep their suspicions to themselves over money as the episodes went on. Quaylyn and Deanna seemed truthful about their suspicions and voted for Muna. It was clear from Sean and Michael's confessional that they were not laying their cards in front of the group, as it might blow their strategy, and they went for Muna as their top pick.
Hannah and Neesh came forward to reveal that they voted for Michael in the quiz. However, the maximum vote went to Muna. At this juncture, Ryan suggested not putting all the money in one truck but rather dividing it among all three.
The group agreed with Ryan's suggestion and decided to load the cash onto the trucks with Muna and Michael's names. While Michael's truck was loaded with $19,500 and Sean's truck was loaded with a $5,000 crate out of precaution, Muna's truck had $25,500.
Soon after, it was revealed that Michael, not Muna, was the top suspect, with the prize pot's amount now totaling $19,500.
Some contestants were seemingly upset because multiple people lied. Neesh said:
"We made the wrong decision. I don't even know whom to suspect. Everyone is a liar."
Episode 5 of The Mole ended with an auction, offering irresistible advantages. The shock followed the cast as someone among them bid all the money and brought the prize pot to $0 to gain an exemption.
The contestants who went ahead with the exemption will be revealed in the coming episodes of the show, which will premiere on July 5.
Episodes one to five of The Mole are available only on Netflix to watch.
