The Mole season 2 episode 2 came out on Friday, June 28. The episode featured a treasure hunt challenge, which was one of the most exciting ones in the season. It was an adventurous task that demanded team coordination, all under the sabotaging eyes of the mole.
The challenge took the contestants underwater, and up on the hills. It also had them build a raft to transfer the treasure chests. However, they succeeded at it and added $15,000 to their prize pot.
The treasure hunt was hard for The Mole to secretly sabotage because it was based solely on teamwork and there were no individual responsibilities.
Details on the Treasure hunt challenge from episode 2 of The Mole season 2
After the contestants arrived on the scenic Tioman Island of Malaysia, host Ari Shapiro explained the rules for the second challenge of the season. He said that during the 18th century, pirate ships used to come here in search of ships filled with gold, and the contestants had to do the same - find the gold. He further explained:
"Down the beach in an abandoned shack is a map. This is the key to finding Tioman's treasure."
The map had to be used to find two hidden treasures. The clues were located in two places, one in a sunken ship underwater, and the other, on a hill in an old supply box.
After they retrieved the clues, they had to decode them to find the location of the treasure chest. Just when The Mole players thought the task was over, Ari unleashed another twist. The contestants also had to build a raft, load the treasures on it, and sail it to a buoy located in the sea. Once there, they had to set out a flare indicating the completion of their mission.
The players were shocked to see how far the buoy actually was in the sea, but Ari made their troubles easy by telling them that the materials they needed to build the raft were scattered along the shoreline. He added that they had two hours to complete the challenge and if they succeeded, another $15,000 would be added to their prize pot.
Ari also reminded them that The Mole among them would create hindrances and try to sink their boat. And with that, he gave them the green light to go ahead with their first task of finding the shack with the map in it.
How did the contestants do on the Treasure hunt challenge on episode 2 of The Mole season 2?
Neesh headed the contestants and divided them into three teams, one consisted of swimmers who could retrieve the clue from the shipwreck underwater. The other team had athletic men who could hike up the hill easily for the second clue. Then, the third team comprised people who could build a raft.
After struggling for a bit, the first team located their shipwreck clue. Michael was the only one who could deep dive to fetch the first aid box that held the clue, and he did.
The second team took time to see the clue hanging overhead, suspended from a tree, but they eventually succeeded. The raft-making team was at par with the others too. The clues of both the teams revealed an "x" mark on the map, which took them to where the treasure was buried.
They dug the two chests out and loaded it on the raft. The mission, which looked smooth up until now, got rough because one of the barrels of the raft came out mid-water. Many suspected that the barrel broke because of The Mole, but the raft survived it and they could take the chest on the buoy.
Episodes 6-8 of The Mole season 2 will come out on July 7, on Netflix.
