With episode 7 of The Ultimatum: South Africa bringing the participants back to their initial partners, their three-week trial partner rendezvous became a thing of the past. Thabi was among the members who bonded with their trial partners on a deeper level. The feeling was mutual between her and Lindile, which bothered Genesis, because he really loved Thabi.
Genesis' bond with Courtney on the other hand, was cordial and sweet; but it didn't touch the emotional depths. So when Genesis reunited with Thabi, he wanted to put it all to pull her out of Lindile fever. His surprise for her was also an attempt at the same.
Genesis surprises Thabi as they reunite on The Ultimatum: South Africa
The couples of The Ultimatum: South Africa got together before the big shift. They hugged their trial partners and said their goodbyes before starting to live with their initial partners. Thabi's tight hug to Lindile was a testament to their bond, and their longing for each other, which was bothersome to Genesis.

In a confessional, Genesis said,
"Just seeing how they are with each other, their body movement, and how they're really comfortable with each other. It's very painful."
When Thabi and Genesis arrived at their villa, he had it decorated and had gifts, chocolates, and flowers ready, in a surprise for her. Thabi seemed excited to see them and thanked Genesis for putting in the effort to make her happy.
However, Genesis' efforts didn't last long because Thabi soon discovered Lindile's gift which was waiting to be opened on the couch. Knowing Lindile's gift was also there, Genesis was sitting crest-fallen at his surprise scene. When Thabi was seemingly excited about Lindile's gift, Genesis told her,
"It hurts when somebody, like, appreciates your woman more than you've been doing."
In a confessional Genesis shared how he wasn't expecting Lindile to send her a gift on the eve of his surprise for her. He said,
"I wasn't expecting that one. I'm trying to hold myself in and not to break down. I feel crying."
He then told Thabi that he missed her and that the past three weeks had disconnected them emotionally. He also told her that thinking of her with someone else was hard for him. That motivated him to work hard on himself so he could be more worthy of her.
Thabi, in turn, said that she felt like she was settling for less when she thought of marrying Genesis before The Ultimatum: South Africa. After being with Lindile she said that she realized that she didn't have to beg for anyone and that she was going to choose herself over everything.
She then asked Genesis to not feel bad about Lindile's surprise and disclosed that she too had gotten something for Lindile. Genesis said that he was okay with that and that he wanted her to choose him because she loved him, and not because he had been with her for seven years.
But in a confessional on The Ultimatum: South Africa, he concluded that Thabi and Lindile's gift exchange meant that they had bonded, and said that it hurt him.
