NBC's popular competition series The Voice premiered in 2011. Based on the original The Voice of Holland and a part of the Voice franchise, it allowed aspiring singers to showcase their talent and learn under the mentorship of some of the most celebrated musicians in the industry.
Through the years, the show has boasted an array of coaches with multiple accolades under their belt. From Grammy to Oscar winners, The Voice has collaborated with numerous legends from the musical industry. When the coaches compete against each other to scout talent for their team, it enhances the viewers' experience.
However, besides the thrill of the cut-throat competition, the true essence of the show is to allow young musicians to learn from these professionals. From pop artists like Ariana Grande to country legends like Reba McEntire, singers from all genres have graced the NBC show.
Here is a list of all the coaches who have battled it out in the red chairs through the years.
22 coaches appeared on The Voice through seasons 1 to 26
1) Blake Shelton (Seasons 1-23)
Country artist Blake Shelton is the show's longest-serving coach. He appeared in 2011 and stayed till 2023, featuring in seasons 1 through 23. Besides his tenure, he also holds the record for the most wins. Through the years nine of his trainees have walked away with the winner's title.
His first victory was in season 2 with Jeremain Paul. He continued his winning streak in seasons 3 and 4 but lost it to another coach in the following season. Blake's subsequent wins came in seasons 7, 11, 13, 18, 20, and 22.
2) Adam Levine (Season 1-16 & 27)
The frontman of Maroon 5, Adam, appeared on the show as one of the original coaches. He stayed through the initial 16 years, until his exit in 2019. He has three wins under his belt: season 1 with Javier Colon, season 5 with Tessanne Chin, and season 9 with Jordan Smith.
In June 2024, NBC announced that Adam would rejoin the coaching panel for season 27.
3) Christina Aguilera (Seasons1-3,5,8,10)
Five-time Grammy winner Christina Aguilera started her journey on The Voice in season 1. She became the first female coach to bag the winner's title after Alison Porter won the competition in season 10.
Besides that, she was also featured in season 7 as Team Gwen's Battle Advisor.
4) CeeLo Green (Seasons 1-3, 5)
CeeLo Green was one of the four original coaches who started the show. However, his tenure ended after season 5.
He returned as Team Shakira's Battle Advisor in season 4, as a Top 8 Advisor to Team Blake in season 8, and again as Team Adam's Battle Advisor in season 15.
5) Shakira (Seasons 4 & 6)
Shakira joined the cast of The Voice in 2013, as CeeLo Green's replacement. She returned for season 6 when CeeLo left permanently.
6) Usher (Season 4 & 6)
Although short, Usher's tenure on the show was no less of an adventure. He holds the record for the most singers stolen by other coaches in the Battle Rounds. Blake and Adam each stole three contestants from his team in season 6.
However, when Usher stole Josh Kaufman from Team Adam in the same season, he ended the competition with the winner's title.
Usher returned as Team Adam's Top 8 Advisor in season 8, as John Legend's team's Battle Advison in season 17, and as a Key Advison for all teams in season 19.
7) Gwen Stefani ( Seasons 7,9,12,17,19,22,24,26)
Gwen is currently a coach in season 26 of The Voice. The No Doubt frontrunner won the show in season 19 with Carter Rubin.
Besides occupying a red chair, the singer has appeared as Team Blake's Battle Advisor in season 10 and Team Christina and Team Pharrell's Top 8 Advisor in season 8.
8) Pharrell Williams (Seasons 7-10)
Grammy winner Pharrell started his coaching career in season 7 of The Voice and continued until season 10. In season 8, the Happy singer bagged his first win with Sawyer Fredericks.
Previously, he appeared on the show as Team Usher's Battle Advisor in season 4.
9) Miley Cyrus (Seasons 11 & 13)
The Flowers singer and Grammy winner joined the panel of coaches in season 11. Miley became the youngest artist ever to occupy the infamous red chair.
However, her first appearance on The Voice was as season 10's Key Advisor.
10) Alicia Keys (Seasons 11-12 & 14)
Legendary R&B singer, Alicia Keys, first appeared as Team Pharrell's Battle Advisor in season 7 of The Voice. She became a coach in 2016 and served in seasons 11, 12, and 14.
Her first and only victory came alongside Chris Blue in season 12. Later, she made a guest appearance in season 21's finale.
11) Jennifer Hudson (Seasons 13 & 15)
EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson was the first female coach to win the UK version of The Voice. In season 6, she clinched the winner's title with singer Mo Jamil Adeniran.
Then she joined the US version of the show and served as a coach for two seasons.
12) Kelly Clarkson (Seasons 14-21 & 23)
Season 1 winner of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, began coaching aspiring singers on The Voice in season 14 and continued through season 21. After a year's break, she returned to her red chair in season 23.
She has four wins in her name. Her first victory came in season 14 with Brynn Cartelli. She then won season 15 alongside Chevel Shepherd. Kelly's third and fourth victories came in seasons 17 and 21 with Jake Hoot and Girl Named Tom respectively.
13) John Legend (Seasons 16-22, 24-25 & 27)
Another EGOT winner, the All of Me singer, joined the cast of The Voice in season 16. His debut year gave him his first win with folk singer Maelyn Jarmon.
In June 2024, NBC announced that John would resume his coaching role in season 27.
14) Nick Jonas (Season 18 & 20)
One-third of the Jonas Brothers, Nick was featured as a coach in seasons 18 and 20 of The Voice. However, his first appearance was as a Battle Advisor for Christina's Team in season 8.
15) Ariana Grande (Season 21)
The God is a Woman singer replaced Nick Jonas in season 21. It was Ariana's first and only appearance as a coach on the competition series.
16) Camila Cabello (Season 22)
Camilla debuted on the show as Team Legend's Battle Advisor in season 21. She joined the coaching panel in the subsequent season.
John Legend complimented the Havana singer while speaking with NBC Insider in 2022, saying, "I could tell she was really good at it...In fact, I told her, 'If a coach opening ever comes up, you should do it because you'd be great at it.' "
17) Niall Horan (Season 23-24)
Former member of One Direction, Niall served two seasons as a coach. He was known for his light-hearted banter with fellow coach Blake Shelton.
18) Chance the Rapper (Seasons 23 & 25)
The Grammy-winning artist joined The Voice in season 23 and after a one-year hiatus, returned for season 25, to resume his coaching role.
He was grateful for the experience because he wanted to give a platform to young artists who needed a little direction to flourish in the industry.
19) Reba McEntire (Season 24-26)
Country legend Reba McEntire joined the show in season 24. After winning season 25 with artist Asher HaVon, she currently serves as a coach in season 26.
Reba was also featured as the Mega Mentor in season 23.
20) Dan + Shay ( Season 25)
Pop country duo, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney shared coaching duties in season 25 alongside Reba, Chance, and John Legend. Before taking on the red chair, they appeared as Team Blake's Battle Advisor in season 20.
21) Michael Bublé (Seasons 26-27)
Grammy-winning singer Michael is one of the present coaches on season 26 of The Voice alongside Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani. The show has confirmed that the vocalist will resume coaching in the subsequent season.
In season 3, Michael appeared as Team Blake's Battle Advisor.
22) Snoop Dogg (Season 26)
The West Coast rapper currently serves as a coach in season 26 of the show. So far, fans have been appreciating his fun-loving personality. Snoop Dogg's first appearance was as a Key Advisor in season 20.
