A new and exciting fourth round of The Voice season 25 was unleashed on episode 14, which aired on April 22, on NBC. In the first round of the playoffs, John Legend's and Dan+Shay's teams came to the stage for a verdict from their mentors to move to the next round of live shows.
From the 10 contestants who performed in episode 14, two from each team were sent home, reducing the total number of contestants to six. The guest judge to help out John was Maluma, while Saweetie helped out Dan+Shay.
The next episode will see 10 contestants from Reba and Chance's teams coming down for the Playoffs. Reba will be accompanied by Anthony Ramos and Chance by Meghan Trainor as guest judges.
The playoffs round on The Voice season 25 episode 14
The episode started with Nathan Chester singing Oh! Darling, which John chose for him. His performance left all The Voice judges impressed with Reba even calling it "the best performance ever".
Second up was Karen Waldrup from Dan+Shay, who sang Heart Like a Truck. Saweetie thought her song was the perfect combination of "sweet and spicy," while Chance thought she held the power to "captivate the audience". Reba expressed regrets about not turning her chair for her in the blind auditions round because she thought she was a great performer.
The second contestant to come from John's team was the Hawaiian sensation, Kamalei Kawa'a. He sang No Woman, No Cry, and was praised by everyone for it. Chance said that his singing had improved while Dan found his voice comforting.
Dan+Shay's Anya True got a tip or two for improving her performance after her rendition of All Too Well's Taylor version. Saweetie asked her to maintain eye contact with the audience for a better act. Reba said that she felt Anya was truly into it, which was why she enjoyed the performance even after not getting all the words.
Then came the oldest contestant of The Voice season 25, Bryan Olesen from team John. He sang Africa and was asked by Maluma to only use his guitar if it added to his performance, but his main goal should be to connect with the audience. After his performance, Chance addressed his rockstar quality, while Reba called him a "perfect performer".
Next up was Dan+Shay's Olivia Rubini. To her song I'll Stand By You, John said that it wasn't the best choice, but understood that she was trying to find her genre. Chance also wished the performance was "a little more dynamic".
Then came Mafe from team Legend, who sang Someone Like You. Her performance caused the judges to disagree as Dan thought the "liberties" she took with the pop song were too much, while John maintained that they were "tasteful".
For Tae Lewis' performance of Runnin' Outta Moonlight, their mentors Dan+Shay and Saweetie suggested he untether his guitar so he could move around the stage. After his performance, Chance deemed it as the "most soulful" performance, while Dan commended his range.
The last two contestants to perform on The Voice season 25 were Zoe Levert from John's team and Madison Curbelo from Dan+Shay. Zoe sang Iris, while Madison sang Landslide. Zoe got a standing ovation from the judges and a "favorite performance" from Chance. Madison was encouraged by Saweetie to embrace her Puerto Rican side.
The end of The Voice episode bid goodbye to Kamalei Kawa'a, Anya True, Olivia Rubini, and Mafe. With Dan+Shay giving the green light to Madison Curbelo, Karen Waldrup, and Tae Lewis. And John saying yes to Nathan Chester, Zoe Levert, and Bryan Olesen for the Live Shows round.
New episodes of The Voice season 25 come out every Monday and Tuesday on NBC, at 8 pm, ET.
