One of the much-anticipated reality shows, The Voice, kicked off the battle rounds in the previous episode, which saw four singers depart. Season 26 episode 8 aired on October 22 at 8 pm ET on NBC, with the second night of the battle round pitting 12 contestants against each other.
In the battle rounds, coaches Michael Buble, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani pitted two of their 14 acts against each other in head-to-head match-ups. In these rounds of The Voice, one of those two artists would advance as a member of their team, while the other would be eliminated.
Last time around, four singers were sent home by the judges, but the coaches were given the option to steal the losing singer and bring them to their team. Michael and Gwen used their first of two steal options the previous night. Meanwhile, judges were thrifty with their steal options in the latest episode, as only Reba used her steal power to save one of the singers in the six battles.
What happened in The Voice season 26 episode 8?
The first battle of the night was between Adam Bohanan and Kevin James Graham from Team Reba. Adam previously lived in England, where he developed his love for music. He has more of a soulful voice, according to Reba, when compared to Kevin's hard rock style.
The two sang Lose Control by Teddy Swims, as they brought something unique to their performance. Gwen praised the harmonies of the two singers but ultimately, Reba picked Adam, who was close to the original singer's sound. As none of the other judges used their steal powers, Kevin was eliminated from The Voice.
Next up was Team Snoop, as the experienced duo of MisterMoon went up against ChrisDeo. The young soloist celebrated her 17th birthday during the mentoring session, and Snoop introduced Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Amy Winehouse for them to sing. The three singers sang their hearts out, but Snoop picked ChrisDeo to advance to the next round, eliminating MisterMoon.
Michael Buble then introduced a song that “changed music forever” by an artist who is “the most important artist in the history of American music.” Team Bublé's Edward Preble and Mark Shiiba went against each other in a duet, as they were asked to give their rendition of Louis Armstrong's classic What a Wonderful World.
Mark is a roots/folk singer who was Michael’s Coach Replay pick, while Edward is a music student and was one of the best singers during the auditions. The judges felt that the contrasting styles of the two singers worked, but Michael chose Edward over Mark and the latter was eliminated.
Team Bublé and Team Snoop went against each other in a montage performance reel. Torion Sellers was put with Jeremy Beloate for Team Bublé, who sang Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars. Michael later revealed that he picked Jeremy over Torion as he believed that Jeremy's uniqueness would take him further in The Voice.
Team Snoop put Suede Lacy and Torre Blake together and they sang What I Do For Love by Bobby Caldwell. Praising both for their hidden potential, Snoop picked Torre while Suede was eliminated.
In the last battle of the night, Frankie Torres was pitted against Gabrielle Zabosky in Team Gwen, as they sang Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. Gabrielle had gotten a 4-chair turn in her audition round, and she mentioned that she got along well with her competitor on The Voice.
The bluesy arrangement of the song earned both singers praises, as their unique voices shone through it. Gwen ultimately picked Gabrielle, but Reba finally used her power of steal and saved Frankie from going home.
The Voice airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on NBC.
