The Voice season 26 has finally been released as the judges Gwen Stefani, and Queen Reba McEntire alongside singer, and songwriter Michael Bublé and rapper Snoop Dogg appear as mentors on the show. The first episode started off with blind auditions which is the first stage of the competition series.
The reality TV series returns with a similar format but minor changes. During the premiere episode, it was revealed that a Coach Replay button was introduced where the contestants were given more chances. At times the judges regret not turning their chairs and choosing the participant for their team, this time they will have the ability to do that even after not initially pressing the red button.
After talking to the participant, the Coach Replay button can be used if the coach feels like they should select them. Throughout The Voice season 26 blind auditions, each mentor can press the coach replay button once. The first-ever artist to receive this button was a 37-year-old singer from Texas, Kendall Eugene.
The Voice season 26 premiered exclusively on NBC on September 23, 2024, at 8 pm PT/ET. The episode synopsis reads as the following:
"The competition is fierce as Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé each claim their red chairs; alongside returning coaches Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani, they all vie to discover and coach the next singing phenomenon."
Kendall Eugene's audition at The Voice season 26 episode 1
On The Voice season 26 episode 1, Kendall shared that he belonged to a musical family which is why he soon became passionate about pursuing music as his dream career. When his mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Kendall had to put his dreams on hold to take care of his family. He told the cameras that now was the right time for him to chase his passion. He said:
"The journey to get here has been extremely long. I've gone through many things in my life that just kind of halted my progress as a professional musician, and I feel like now, it's finally my time. It's so crazy. Just a few years back Morgan was right here at The Voice, trying to get his start."
Kendall performed Don't Think Jesus on the stage, a song that was covered by former The Voice contestant Morgan Wallen. The audience as well as the coaches thought Reba McEntire would turn her chair but she didn't. By the time Kendall's song concluded, none of the mentors had turned their chairs. Coach Gwen Stefani encouraged Kendall to audition again next year stating that he had a "tenderness" to his voice which she loved. Gwen said:
"This sucks, because when it came to the choruses, it was believable, it was heartfelt. I didn't press because in the beginning, even though I loved the tenderness of your voice, there was a lot of tuning things going on. I just think you should come back."
Michael Bublé said that the song choice wasn't right meanwhile Snoop Dogg admitted that he was waiting for Reba to push the button. Reba couldn't understand why she didn't turn but she was glad that the coach replay button exists this season.
The new episodes of The Voice season 26 will air every week on Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC and the next day on Peacock TV.
