The Voice season 26 is shaking things up and is coming back with three new coaches. The previous season was led by Reba McEntire, John Legend, Chance the Rapper, and the duo of Dan + Shay. This time around McEntire will be joined by returning coach Gwen Stefani, and first-time coaches Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé.
Season 26 will premiere on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 8 pm ET on NBC. After the premiere, the show will roll out the following week, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, with two episodes airing each week. Fans will also be able to catch the episodes the very next day on the Peacock streaming platform.
The Voice season 26: The coaches
The expectations are quite high for season 26 as it is set to feature two coaches who have previously won the show and two who are making their debuts. The fans will also be treated to a new lineup of contestants as they compete against each other to take home the prize.
Like fans, the previous season's coach John Legend is also excited for the upcoming season. While talking to ET in May 2024, Legend said:
“We’ve been around for 25 seasons and part of how we continue to stay fresh is introducing new coaches to The Voice family, and I think Michael and Snoop will do well. And I’m excited that Gwen and Reba will be back too because they’re both wonderful coaches.”
Reba McEntire is back for a third run as a coach. She first appeared on The Voice as a Mega Mentor in season 23 and became a permanent coach in season 24. The American country singer went on to win season 25 with her team member Asher HaVon.
Veteran coach Gwen Stefani is set to return after taking a break from season 25. She won the title in season 19 with her team member Carter Rubin and this season will be the sixth time she takes on the coach role.
While it might be the first time Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé will appear as coaches, it isn't the first time they will appear on the show. The artists were a part of season 20 and season 3, respectively. They know how things work, and this season, they will surely want to leave their mark and start their new role with a bang.
Why did season 25 coaches leave the show?
Fans will miss season 25 coaches John Legend, Chance the Rapper, and the duo of Dan and Shay as they venture out to focus on their lives outside the show. In an interview with ET on 14 May 2024, John Legend shared that he was leaving the show after his season 25 run. He wanted to give all his time to his upcoming "An Evening With John Legend" tour.
The coaching duo Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney had the same reason for not being able to return for season 26 of The Voice. Just before the finale of season 25, the news broke that the duo would be busy with their "Heartbreak on the Map" tour and entertain fans outside the show. During the season 25 red carpet, Mooney told ET:
“We’re touring a lot this year, which we’re really excited about, but obviously doesn’t allow us to come back.”
Coach Chance the Rapper on the other hand has yet to give a reason for why he is not returning for the upcoming season.
The addition of Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé will add a unique element to The Voice. It returns for its 26th season on September 23, 2024, at 8 pm ET on NBC.
