The 26th season of The Voice, which premiered on September 23, 2024, introduced a brand-new feature: the ‘Coach Replay.’ This allows each coach to press their button once during the blind auditions for an artist who was initially eliminated, giving them a second chance to join a team.
Hosted by Carson Daly, this season features Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Michael Bublé, and Snoop Dogg as coaches. So far, four artists have been saved through the Coach Replay: Kendall Eugene, Gail Bliss, Jaylen Dunham, and Mark Shiiba.
The next episode of The Voice airs on Monday, October 21, at 8/7c on NBC, with the battles premiere. Here’s a closer look at the contestants who earned a second chance.
List of contestants who earned the Coach’s Replays on The Voice:
1) Kendall Eugene – Team Reba
In the season premiere, Kendall Eugene performed Don’t Thank Jesus for his blind audition. His rendition, though heartfelt, faced criticism for tuning issues, as noted by Gwen Stefani, and song choice concerns, highlighted by Michael Bublé.
Despite his emotional performance, none of the coaches initially turned their chairs. However, Reba McEntire reflected on Kendall’s potential and his touching personal story.
Moved by his journey, which included supporting his paralyzed mother and becoming a father at a young age, Reba used her Coach Replay to bring Kendall onto her team. She believed he had untapped potential and was eager to mentor him through the competition.
2) Gail Bliss – Team Snoop
In the second episode, Gail Bliss performed If It Hadn't Been for Love. At 61, she was the oldest contestant in the season and stood out for her yodeling and powerful vibrato. Despite her strong vocal skills, no coaches turned their chairs initially.
Despite Gail’s age and experience, it seemed her journey on The Voice had ended without a team. However, Snoop Dogg, regretting his earlier decision, used his Coach Replay to save her. He praised her talent and admired her perseverance, giving Gail another chance on Team Snoop.
3) Jaylen Dunham – Team Gwen
Jaylen Dunham, a 14-year-old from North Carolina, gained attention during the third episode with his performance of Beyoncé's ballad Listen. Known for his viral performances at the Apollo Theater, Jaylen showcased his vocal range and control.
However, none of the coaches initially turned their chairs. After learning his age, Gwen Stefani felt regret for not turning earlier. She praised his lower register and decided to use her Coach Replay, giving Jaylen a spot on Team Gwen. She expressed a deep connection to his performance and felt he had enormous potential to grow in the competition.
4) Mark Shiiba – Team Bublé
Mark Shiiba, a folk artist with a unique laid-back style, performed Bob Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind in the fifth episode. Accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica, Mark failed to convince any of the coaches to turn their chairs.
Despite this, Michael Bublé saw Mark's raw talent and artistry and used his Coach Replay to give him another chance. Bublé appreciated Mark’s authenticity in his approach to folk music and believed his talents could be developed further, securing Mark’s place on Team Bublé.
The saved artists will have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in the battle rounds as The Voice advances to the next phase of the competition. The battle rounds will debut in the next episode of The Voice on Monday, October 21.
