"There's literally not a breather" — Love is Blind wedding planner reveals how ceremonies are designed

The unique dating experiment Love is Blind has gained global popularity and spawned successful spin-offs. The most recent version, Love is Blind: UK featured the wedding of three couples. With the reunion set to release on August 27, 2024, fans of the show are curious to see how the couples fared after the cameras stopped rolling.

For the unversed, the Love is Blind franchise allows cast members to interact with each other through pods and form romantic connections. Those who succeed, propose and get engaged. The engagement is the first time they see one another. After living together for a month and meeting each other's families, they decide if marriage is next.

In an interview with Tudum, published on April 14, 2023, Love is Blind wedding planner Slomique Hawrylo reveals how the ceremonies are arranged. She says:

"It's one wedding on a Monday, one wedding on a Tuesday. There's literally not a breather. I'm doing five weddings in five days. So do I sleep? No."

The Love is Blind franchise is renowned for flaunting lavish weddings. From handpicking the location to decorating the venue, Slomique sheds light on the extensive work behind the scenes which ensure a seamless on-screen experience.

Love is Blind couples convey their wedding requirements by filling out a questionnaire

Slomique says that since she does not get the chance to meet the cast members, she supplies them with a questionnaire to understand their vision for the wedding. She uses that to try and get a sense of their "feelings and emotions." They also convey their demands for the type of cake they want, ranging from "traditional to boho, to modern, to romantic."

With her team of 35 to 40 people, she attempts to grasp the style of the individuals by going through Pinterest boards and their social media handles.

"Just know that as I'm designing these weddings, I am also blind," Slomique adds.

She ensures each wedding is customized to the cast member's preferences. Slomique incorporates personal touches, from reserving a seat for a loved one who has passed away to featuring a specific color to compliment a bridal gown. She confesses that "each wedding has its own voice," and as a professional in the field it is her responsibility to "listen to everything" the Love is Blind stars ask for.

Slomique states that the contestants do not bear the financial burden of their weddings. She plans the ceremony using the budget each season alotts her with.

"I design the same type of weddings I would do for celebrity clients," Slomique mentions.

Only when couples want something specific in their ceremonies that Slomique "wouldn't know how to get," do they spend their money. As for their guests, each pair can invite between 80 to 100 people.

Slomique also talks about the multiple factors that stand the chance of ruining an event. It can be bad weather or the unpredictability of the couples. Despite the effort she and her team invest in planning an event, a couple might ultimately decide against marrying each other. Although it affects her plans, she respects the emotions of the cast members.

"What I try to do is make every ceremony breathtakingly gorgeous, but the receptions may not always happen, so I have to make a gamble," Slomique says.

When couples break up at the altar, she and her team let the chaos unfold "organically." The guests are not forced to evacuate the venue, however, they leave with either the bride or the groom, whoever they represent at the party.

Slomique says it is her responsibility to give people their fairytale ending. She believes her work transcends just "making things pretty." The goal is to help individuals find the love they yearn for.
