The second season of Tex Mex Motors premiered on Netflix on November 22, 2024. Combining mechanical expertise with artistic flair, the show follows a car enthusiast team as they transform neglected vehicles into stunning automotive masterpieces.
This season carries a bittersweet tone, as it marks the final on-screen appearance of Rob "Rabbit" Pitts, who passed away after battling cancer. In episode 7, Jamie Hjelm, a new addition to the Tex Mex Motors team, expressed admiration for Rabbit and Marcos "Scooter" for their latest acquisition.
“They did awesome scoring this Lamborghini. If we can pull this off, hitting our goal is definitely possible,” shared Jamie.
Jamie praised the duo for securing a Lamborghini Diablo for just $43,000. With potential profits of over $200,000, the team is determined to restore the vehicle to its former glory while navigating the challenges of luxury car restoration.
Tex Mex Motors: The Lamborghini's arrival
Scooter and Rabbit unveiled their newly purchased Lamborghini Diablo at the shop, and the team’s reactions were mixed. The bright pink wrap and rhinestone embellishments initially left the crew skeptical.
Wesley Zachary quipped, “A pink Lamborghini. Bring it on in,” while Rabbit acknowledged the car’s flamboyant appearance, and jokingly said that the car was not really built for full-sized people.
Despite the laughs, Rabbit highlighted the car's value. He explained,
“This is a Lamborghini Diablo. These things are sought after everywhere around the world."
Pointing out the opportunity to transform the vehicle, he added,
“We peel off the crappy wrap, pretty paint. This car, I think, 200 grand.”
When Scooter revealed the purchase price of $43,000, the team was impressed but cautious. Wesley voiced the crew’s concerns, saying, there might be something wrong with the car, Jamie agreed, stating,
“Being a Lamborghini, it can be a blessing or a curse, depending on what’s wrong mechanically with this.”
As the team prepared to restore the Lamborghini in Tex Mex Motors, ideas flowed about how to approach the transformation. Jamie emphasized the importance of inspecting the car thoroughly, saying that they need to make sure that the body is factory-perfect.
Wesley proposed returning the car to its original orange color, which aligns with Lamborghini’s signature palette. Scooter, however, suggested incorporating a cultural twist inspired by Huichol Indian art. Referencing the intricate, colorful designs seen in Alebrijes, he shared,
“There’s an Indian culture in northern Mexico... They’re called Huichol Indians.”
While the idea intrigued the team, Lucky stressed, that despite all the changes the car must look authentic enough.
Andy offered a middle ground, suggesting an orange color that complements the Huichol art, ensuring the design remains classy while standing out.
With plans for the exterior taking shape, the team turned their attention to the car’s mechanics. Jamie and Wesley inspected the engine, preparing for the worst. Jamie expressed concerns about the potential cost of repairs, stating in a confessional,
“Every little screw on this thing is going to be expensive. Any big replacements will just kill us on trying to reach our goal.”
Despite the challenges, she remained optimistic about the Lamborghini’s potential to bring in significant profits if the restoration stayed within budget.
