On their wedding day in the show, Asma decided not to marry Khatab, not because of a lack of love but because her parents had not yet accepted their relationship. In a conversation with Khatab, Asma explained that her decision was not about him but rather her desire to have her parents’ approval before moving forward with the marriage.

Asma asked him to travel to Canada to speak with her father personally and ask for his blessing. Recognizing the significance of this gesture in their relationship, she said:
"Dad will feel you're serious about this and that you came all the way and actually want this, and he'll love you."
