The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos' journey on the show has been full of heartfelt moments. The Bachelor Nation fandom has been enjoying the spinoff series, where 24 suitors test their luck as Joan wishes to find love again. Recently, on the October 20 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, writer and television personality Martha Stewart talked about The Golden Bachelorette with host Andy Cohen.
When Cohen asked Martha if she wanted to join the show, she replied with a no. Stewart further said that the guys "aren’t hot enough," after Cohen suggested a hypothetical situation where she would be paid a million dollars per episode. Martha's answer stayed the same, as she explained that "it ain’t about the money" but rather about "how hot the guys are."
In response to Martha's statement, The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos defended her 24 suitors, stating that all the guys are "special and wonderful." In a conversation with Access Hollywood on October 22, 2024, Joan shared that she reached out to Martha via her social media account to let her know that "dating is hard," and "there's a great group of guys" on the show.
Joan concluded by stating that maybe Martha hasn't watched the series, or she has to be in person to understand it. She said:
“Maybe you have to be in person? They are special guys. I feel like everyone’s falling in love with them. I’m like, ‘What’s wrong with you, Martha?’”
Joan Vassos defends her The Golden Bachelorette suitors
In an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood, posted to their official YouTube channel on October 22, 2024, The Golden Bachelorette star Joan responded to Martha Stewert's critique. Vassos told interviewer Lauren Herbert and her 78-year-old grandma Linda Vandergeest, that she had DM'd Martha on Instagram to let her know what she thought about her comment regarding the guys on the show.
Joan defended all 24 contestants of the show, stating that they were "wonderful" and "special." The Golden Bachelorette star further mentioned that each one of them is beautiful from inside and out. Talking about her message to Martha, she said:
“I said, ‘Dating is hard out there and I had a great group of guys.’ She doesn’t know them like I know them. I got to know the inside of them as well as the outside, and both are wonderful.”
She also praised The Golden Bachelorette production team for choosing cast members with interesting backstories and wholesome personalities. Joan explained that she wanted to get to know each of them better, as all the suitors "did something memorable." She continued:
“The team did a great job of picking (the men). What they’re about and their backstories, they’re all so wonderful. They are there for a reason. When they got out of the limos that first night, every single one of them did something memorable and made me want to get to know them more.”
Vassos wrapped up the conversation by sharing her conclusion that Martha might not have watched the series yet or “didn’t see what (she) saw in them.” As viewers may already know, the Bachelor Nation fans "are falling in love" with all the participants, and how wholesome the show has been because of them.
New episodes of The Golden Bachelorette air every week on Wednesdays at 8/7c exclusively on ABC, and the following day on Hulu. Fans can also follow Joan Vassos on her official Instagram account.
