Mark Cuban, entrepreneur, and investor on Shark Tank, discussed his approach to proclivity—particularly regarding intimacy—during an interview with comedian Theo Von on September 25, 2024.

Cuban clarified that his perspective on proclivity goes further than intimate propensity and involves a more general inclination to attempt new things in almost every area of life. He stated:

"I mean, is it worth it? Yeah. But I mean, look, I'm not going to say that forget not s*x necessarily, but just like going out and trying new things, right?"

According to Mark Cuban, the term "proclivities" may not refer to intimate behavior but to his general inclination to explore new experiences, whether in business or life. He said that his perspective on trying new things has evolved as his life circumstances have changed, particularly as he has aged and his family has grown.

Cuban’s reflections on his earlier life illustrate a time when novelty and excess were central to his actions. He stressed that, when he was younger, he was driven by the desire to experience as much as possible.

He explained that, in his earlier years, it was important for him to "go, go, go" and "see who could throw the biggest parties" or "rent the biggest bill." Cuban also described how he would rent clubs and focus on big, lavish gestures. He emphasized that during this period, his proclivities were centered around fun, excitement, and exploring the limits of what he could achieve.

Cuban also highlighted his enthusiasm for unique experiences such as buying a lifetime pass with American Airlines. He explained,

"When I saw my first company, I bought a lifetime pass on American Airlines. So literally I was 29 and I was like, I had this card where I could just go to any airport that had American Airlines just show up, me and somebody else, and wherever they were flying, they had to put me on a plane."

The Shark Tank investor noted that this was an example of how he approached life—seeking new opportunities to try something different.

A shift toward family and responsibility

As Cuban’s life progressed, he explained that his focus shifted from indulgence and novelty to family and responsibility. The Shark Tank investor described that his children are now getting older, and he emphasized that this stage in life has prompted a shift in his perspective, placing family ahead of the thrill-seeking behaviors of his youth. He explained:

“As I’ve gotten older, my kids have gotten older. It’s more like my kids are 15, 18, and 21. And so it’s like, let’s spend more time with them because that’s the most valuable thing to me.”

Contrary to his previous days, Cuban nowadays sees family as the foundation of his life instead of pursuing something new for its own sake. He emphasized that his priorities were no longer the big parties nor the extravagant experiences, but the good relationships with those he loves.

Navigating intimacy with fame and responsibility

Cuban’s comments also touched on the complexities that fame and wealth can introduce to relationships and intimacy. The Shark Tank investor explained the challenges that come with trying to keep connections stable and private in the context of notoriety involved in managing relationships when wealth and power are factors, stating:

"I can't imagine the level of like, paranoia. Yeah, you just, I mean, is it worth it?"

Cuban emphasized that navigating intimacy under these circumstances requires careful consideration and awareness of the consequences. He acknowledged that, as one’s status and wealth grow, the dynamics of intimacy become more complicated, yet he emphasized that the priority should shift toward meaningful and stable connections.

The Shark Tank investor explained that he used to keep trying new things in different spheres, but currently, he pays more attention to the connections that are important and, above all, to family.
