In the final episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, season 7, Sunny introduced Veah to his father, Shahin, after proposing to her. Previously, Sunny and Veah had disagreements when the former revealed he was Muslim and expected his partner to convert. Although Veah wanted to stay with Sunny, she was hesitant about converting.
Despite this, Sunny proposed, and Veah accepted. Shahin was opposed to their union and deemed it unacceptable. He believed that Veah should follow their faith, and her refusal to convert would bring shame to their family. During a conversation with Sunny and Veah, Shahin expressed his concerns, suggesting they might need to go their separate ways.
Veah asked if Sunny was being forced to choose between her and his father, and Shahin confirmed that was the case. He warned that he would no longer be involved in Sunny's life.
"Unacceptable. It’s totally wrong. Totally not good... If someone knows, Sunny got a wife, but doesn't convert. Sunny wife is a Christian. People will say, 'Shame on Sunny. What you did is wrong,'" Shahin said.
90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days star Sunny revealed that he did not want to lose his father again
In a moment of reflection on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, Sunny acknowledged that he had worked hard to rebuild his relationship with his father after a difficult childhood. The thought of losing his father again was unbearable, and Sunny felt torn between his love for Veah and his loyalty to his family.
Sunny and Veah met with Shahin at a restaurant, bringing a cake as a gesture of goodwill. However, Shahin was still upset about Veah walking out of their previous meeting and wasn't interested in the cake. He asked for some time to collect his thoughts over tea. Shahin's anger stemmed from what he perceived as disrespect in Veah's sudden departure.
"Why she’d give me cake? Then you did so many wrong thing and you come with a cake. Big cake, small cake, whatever. This is ridiculous. I'm think that girl is not so good," said Shahin in a confessional on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days.
Shahin found Veah's gesture of bringing cake insincere, and he questioned her character, feeling she didn't genuinely care about his feelings. Once Shahin was ready to talk on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, Veah explained that she had felt uncomfortable and attacked when her religion and tattoos were discussed. She attributed her abrupt departure to anxiety and a need to clear her head.
Shahin remained unconvinced, seeking assurance that Veah wouldn't behave similarly in the future. Veah acknowledged that she couldn't guarantee her anxiety wouldn't trigger another reaction, but she hoped it wouldn't happen again. Shahin emphasized that it was too late to apologize. Shahin turned to Sunny, seeking his perspective on Veah's behavior.
Sunny pleaded with his father on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days to forgive Veah, acknowledging that she was unfamiliar with their cultural customs but was genuinely trying her best. Veah added that she and Sunny desired a successful relationship and hoped to gain Shahin's acceptance. Shahin, however, remained skeptical, questioning Sunny about his plans for the future.
"We just want, like, a successful relationship, and we want the, you know, like I really would want his family to accept our relationship. I want you to accept our relationship," expressed Veah.
This prompted Sunny to reveal that he and Veah were already engaged, which shocked Shahin. Shahin expressed his disapproval, feeling that Sunny should have informed him before taking such a significant step. Shahin also inquired about Veah's willingness to convert. Veah replied that Sunny had assured her it was not necessary, which Shahin disagreed with.
