The high-stakes drama and lively crew interactions on Below Deck Mediterranean keep viewers hooked. Recently, the arrival of a new stew, Carrie O'Neill, in season 9 episode 14 made things more tense as employee Elena 'Ellie' Dubaich complained that Aesha Scott's choice to bring Carrie on board made her unhappy.
Aesha Scott spoke to Kate Chastain in Below Deck Mediterranean After Show, sharing her thoughts on the underlying issues between Ellie and Carrie.
"I think she could see as soon as Carrie came on that she was more equipped and better than her and was immediately threatened."
Ellie felt she might get demoted and was worried about her position on the yacht. She vented her frustration and uncertainty about what was going on. Ellie said:
"If I'm reading this situation correctly, it would make me start resenting Aesha for that decision."
Aesha's insight into Ellie's reaction in Below Deck Mediterranean
Aesha Scott openly discussed the tension between Ellie and Carrie on the Below Deck Mediterranean After Show. She told Kate Chastain what she thought about Ellie's behavior, especially how she asked for help to become chief stew as soon as Carrie joined the crew.
Aesha said she quickly figured out what Ellie was up to and felt she could read Ellie like a book. When Ellie kept looking at Aesha, she gave short, uninterested answers and suggested they discuss it later. Aesha's comments show how competitive the yachting business is.
A new crew member with more experience can make the current staff feel threatened.
Even though it seemed like Ellie wasn't happy, Aesha told her that she was a hard worker but that her focus on looks and status might hinder her progress. Aesha told Ellie that she shouldn't worry about possible threats but instead work on improving her skills and fitting in with the Below Deck Mediterranean crew.
Ellie’s clarification on her request for advice in Below Deck Mediterranean
Ellie Dubaich talked about the situation on the After Show and explained why she was asking Aesha for advice. She said that her question about how to become a chief stew had nothing to do with Carrie's arrival. Instead, Ellie felt it was the right moment to enhance her skills and knowledge as the season progressed.
Ellie stated:
"It felt like, ‘Okay, this is my time to kind of ask Aesha to teach me anything else I could possibly learn."
Ellie told Aesha she was grateful for giving her the chance to learn and grow professionally. She clarified that her question wasn't a response to Carrie's presence but rather about growing as a person and getting ready for future opportunities.
Ellie concluded:
"This was fully for me, because it felt that's where I was on my journey on the boat. You know, I was kind of comfortable with the cocktails and the service and the set-up and the housekeeping and laundry, so this was like the only thing that was left for me to still learn before I left."
As the season progresses, the dynamics between Ellie, Carrie, and the rest of the crew will continue to evolve. Fans can look forward to more drama and new details about the complicated relationships on the yacht in Below Deck Mediterranean.
