In the September 10, 2024, episode of Welcome to Plathville, Moriah Plath shared that her recent heartbreak has led to noticeable physical changes, particularly affecting her hair. Moriah stated,

“I left Tampa the last day of September and I was grieving, lost in heartbreak, and my hair started falling out.”

She revealed on Welcome to Plathville that she has alopecia, a condition that caused her to lose approximately half of her hair following her 2023 breakup.

“Oh, I just, like, want to shave it off,” Moriah told her mother, Kim Plath, while expressing her distress.

Moriah opens up about her alopecia and breakup

Moriah Plath’s experience with alopecia dates back to her early childhood. She recalled losing all her hair at around age 3 or 4, with it only regrowing by age 8. This condition appears to be triggered by emotional stress, such as heartbreak. Moriah explained,

“These last several months, I have noticed, for myself at least, heartbreak triggers my alopecia. I think that it’s an outward reflection of what’s going on inside,”

Previously, Moriah dated Max Kallschmidt, introduced to viewers in season 2 of Welcome to Plathville. Their relationship ended in 2022, with Moriah openly expressing her sadness about Max's infidelity. Her recent breakup, which is with a different individual, seems to have been equally distressing.

“Like my first breakup, I lost a little bit [of hair]. There [were], like, one or two spots,” she noted.

Kim Plath, Moriah's mother, acknowledged the emotional weight of Moriah’s recent breakup. She described the latest relationship as more stressful but chose not to elaborate further. Kim offered reassurance to Moriah, emphasizing that alopecia is unpredictable.

“(It) was a lot harder for a lot of reasons... I’m so proud of you, even just for being brave enough to share that with people you know and get out there and make a music video. You’re so strong and I’m so proud of you.”

In response, Moriah expressed her gratitude and said that that was all she needed to hear. The mother-daughter exchange highlighted their supportive relationship, as they both shared an emotional moment. Kim also humorously suggested,

“Well, the next guy that you date is getting a full background check, so you don’t have to worry about that again.”

Moriah agreed, indicating that there were aspects of her ex-boyfriend that she was unaware of.

Moriah’s older brother, Ethan Plath, provided additional context regarding her recent ex. He shared,

“At the very end she found out that he actually had another girl that was either his girlfriend or his wife or whatever, but that he had a kid with this other woman.”

Their father, Barry Plath, was even more critical, referring to Moriah’s ex as a “master deceiver” and expressing his disapproval.

“The good thing is she’s out of there,” Barry added.
