Below Deck Mediterranean premiered on July 22 on Bravo TV, featuring boatmances, heartbreaks, and love triangles. Unexpected chemistry developed between crew members Gael Cameron and Nathan Gallagher, who had been flirting and showing mutual interest.
In episode 2, Gael tries to secretly meet Nathan, despite being in a relationship with her engineer boyfriend on another boat. By episode 9, Gael shared her boyfriend had broken up with her. Now she is single but a potential boatmance with Nathan will be seen in the upcoming episodes.
She told Aesha Scott that her relationship was suffering due to the work responsibilities and long distance. Gael further stated that she got to explore a different version of herself through this connection.
"This is so sad. He taught me a lot. Ahh f*ck me, why am I so emotional? I really wanted to make it work. It was a relationship I learned a lot from, and I learned a lot about myself from this relationship. I really valued him as a person," Gael said.
Gael Cameron's breakup and boatmance with Nathan on Below Deck Mediterranean
Previously on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen's June 24, 2024 episode, the Below Deck Mediterranean cast member revealed she had discussed the Nathan situation with her boyfriend. She shared that both of them weren't insecure and trusted each other completely. Gael admitted that it wasn't right for her to flirt with someone when she was already committed, she confessed to her mistake and clarified further.
"I was very honest with him, I even told him, I was like, 'Look, I've behaved in ways that I feel like I'm not proud of. Relationships are difficult, so we just have to roll with it," Gael said.
However, this was not the only reason the two broke up. As per Gael's statements, she and her boyfriend were struggling to stay in contact due to their busy schedules. The Below Deck Mediterranean star mentioned that she used to talk to him every night before going to bed but her partner used to get upset that she wouldn't give him more time, which was difficult for her while being on boat.
The Below Deck Mediterranean star said she "nearly lost" her job due to her partner's behavior and "wasn't a fan" of a few of his personality traits. Without sharing many details of the reason behind their breakup, Gael stated in episode 5 that Nathan was there for her in difficult times when it should've been her boyfriend.
"I know I should be putting my relationship first. I just want him to have my back and support me. His actions are just slowly pushing me away and it's definitely making me realize Nathan's just there for me. Like, I've really just beat myself up over this quite a bit," Gael said.
To see more of the boatmance on the show, stream Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 every week on Mondays at 9/8c exclusively on Bravo TV. New episodes are available the next day on Peacock.
