The latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean was released on Monday, September 16, 2024, and saw tensions between Aesha Scott and Ellie Dubiach reach a boiling point. The reality TV series follows the professional and personal lives of the crew members as they navigate the high seas on luxury yachts.
In the latest episode, the chief stew on Below Deck Mediterranean, Aesha, finally confronted the second stew, Ellie. Aesha spoke to Ellie about what she thought was the growing power struggle that affected the team dynamics. The chief stew told Ellie that she had consistently overstepped her boundaries, attempting to give orders to fellow stews Bri Muller and Carrie O'Neill. Aesha noted that this created tension within the team.
This shift in behavior from Ellie became particularly noticeable after Carrie came on board, leading Ellie to feel marginalized. In a confessional on Below Deck Mediterranean, she remarked that there had "been a palpable shift in Aesha's behavior toward her since Carrie joined.
“And I’m here, like, ‘What about me? Remember me?',” Ellie said.
Aesha, meanwhile, had her reasons for not delegating tasks to Ellie as frequently, especially when she was found "goofing off" instead of completing her assigned duties.
Tensions between Aesha Scott and Ellie Dubaich in Below Deck Mediterranean
During the latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean, Aesha Scott's frustration with Ellie Dubiach reached its peak after she found Ellie hanging out in the crew mess. She had assigned her second stew to prepare for an upcoming charter.
Aesha reprimanded her publicly, asking her if she had heard anything the chief stew had asked her to do.
“We are about to pick up charter and you are just flouncing around the crew mess,” Aesha said.
Ellie’s response was one of defiance, leading her to confide that she felt like she had "to check out a little" as she didn't like the way she was treated.
“I fully understand that Aesha wants the highest yacht standards but the way she is going about it — she is achieving the opposite effect,” the cast member said.
Carrie O’Neill also noted Ellie’s attempted power plays, feeling that the latter was taking advantage of the situation to position herself as the authority figure. Carrie stated that her castmate was "definitely trying to be the alpha dog," adding that she has had a "really high-stress job for a long time," and needed a break. She noted that it was "kind of nice to let go of that responsibility" for some time.
The breaking point and resolution
As the episode on Below Deck Mediterranean unfolded, the power struggle became more visible, especially when Ellie attempted to exert control over Carrie. Expressing her frustration with Carrie’s sudden authority over laundry duties, Ellie made a sarcastic comment. She claimed that it felt "amazing" when the "floater" told her, the second stew, what to do.
Both Aesha and Ellie ended up giving conflicting orders over the radio, leading Aesha to publicly reinforce her position as chief stew. Emphasizing her determination to assert her leadership, Aesha noted that she didn't understand "what Ellie was playing at." The chief stew noted that her second stew seemed to be trying to show Carrie that she did have a "little bit of power."
The tipping point occurred when Ellie undermined Aesha by repeating her instructions to Chef Johnathan Shillingford. This led Aesha to state that it was "the straw that broke the camel's back" for her.
Aesha's final confrontation and reflections
The episode of Below Deck Mediterranean saw a one-on-one conversation between Aesha and Ellie about the latter's responsibilities and limitations.
“I think it is annoying because it has been a buildup. I feel like you have been overstepping as the second. The job as the second is to delegate when I am not around. But if I am on the floor, you are not delegating," Aesha said.
As she expressed her frustration, Aesha said that it had reached a point where she felt like Ellie had disrespected the chief stew's position for her own ego that she didn't care. She added that throughout the season, she has had to "coddle " Ellie, which she was "sick of."
Ellie, however, maintained her innocence, stating she would "never disrespect" Aesha, despite flashbacks showing otherwise. As the episode closed, Ellie reflected on her role, wondering why Aesha was blaming her for everything and making her "the scapegoat."
Below Deck Mediterranean continues to air on Bravo on Mondays at 9 pm ET, with new episodes available on Peacock the following day.
