In 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 7, episode 16, Brian and Ingrid decided to part ways after a tense and emotional conversation. Brian had hoped to return to Chicago with a fiancée, but growing doubts about Ingrid’s intentions, especially accusations of being a "gold digger," led to their breakup.
Ingrid was hurt and offended by these accusations, and Brian's lack of understanding left her regretful and disappointed. Their last conversation ended with a mutual decision to separate, which left them both regretful.
Brian was disappointed at the end of their relationship, and Ingrid felt that all her emotional investment had been wasted. The couple's expectations were different, and the issues were left unresolved, ending their two-year journey together.
Brian and Ingrid's breakup in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Season 7
Tensions leading to the breakup
The gap between them started manifesting way before the previous episode when Brian doubted Ingrid's intentions with him. During the 90 Day Fiancé episode 15, he asked himself aloud if she was not seeking a better life for herself in the United States rather than being in love with him. This greatly hurt Ingrid's feelings, as he even accused her of being some kind of "gold digger."
By episode 16, these doubts had created a rift that neither could bridge. Their reunion to discuss the previous day’s fallout highlighted how far apart they had grown emotionally. Brian opened the conversation by saying,
“I don't know, because yesterday ended up being a bit tense, right? Tense, really tense. And I didn't want that"
Ingrid defended herself, reiterating that she didn’t deserve the accusations and felt misunderstood, saying,
"Accusing me of being a gold digger, that I want to go to your country, that I want to take my children there to have a good life. I don't deserve it."
However, Brian seemed unwilling, or perhaps unable, to fully address her grievances. This lack of resolution left Ingrid feeling disappointed and underappreciated. She said in a 90 Day Fiancé confessional,
"I was expecting Brian to apologize, but he didn't try to explain himself or understand."
Ingrid summed up her feelings, saying,
“I’m feeling cheated, disappointed, and almost two years wasted, putting expectations on a person who was totally different from what you idealized.”
Brian, while disappointed, left the door open for goodwill, saying,
“I'm speaking from the heart to you.. I still want the best for you.”
A mutual but painful goodbye
During their final meeting, the relationship appeared to have already reached its breaking point. Ingrid's frustration was palpable as she expressed her disappointment in Brian's failure to take accountability or show deeper understanding. Ingrid said they tried, but "it didn't work," and she was ready to move on.
Brian, though saddened, appeared to accept the reality of the situation. Reflecting on his disappointment and the emotional toll of the breakup, he admitted,
“I thought I would return with a fiancée, but I return with another ex.”
Despite the tensions, their goodbye was bittersweet. The two shared a hug; Ingrid spoke about mixed feelings about the end of her journey. Even as their bond was well acknowledged, they realized they could not move forward together. Thus, in a 90 Day Fiancé confessional, Ingrid said:
“He was a companion. He is a companion. He is a companion to vent to, to talk to, to cheer me up, you know? So, maybe I'll feel like something is missing because we talked a lot."
