Dai and Shun's journey on The Boyfriend
From the beginning of the show The Boyfriend, the 22-year-old university student Dai was clear about finding a genuine connection on the show. Meanwhile, Shun entered the Green House with a sense of caution. He stuggled to open up at the start because of his past experiences in relationships.
Shun initally told another contestant, Ryota, that none of the men in the house were his type. However, on the first night, Shun received an anonymus letter from Dai, expressing his interest towards the former.
On the other hand, Dai got three anonymous letters but his only hope was that one of them should be from Shun. Moments like learning coffee-making alongside Shun and hugging him goodbye before a birthday dinner made Dai fall for him.
The duo began to have issues when Shun accidentally saw naked photos on Dai's phone, it made him skeptical about his intentions. He thought Dai could just be another player similar to his past boyfriends. Dai responded:
"After what happened earlier, I feel like I've completely destroyed a lot of things we've built up to this point."
Shun then stated that his past boyfriends had done something similar and that was the reason he was so disappointed in Dai. Later, Dai's ability to navigate misunderstandings made Shun reciprocate his feelings. Especially in episode 9, where Dai refused to wear the T-shirt that Shun gave, Dai apologized and said he would not repeat it again.
After understanding Dai's feelings for him, Shun began to let his guard down and acknowledged Dai's importance in his life. He began to talk about his past relationships and his upbringing as an orphan in a group home. Their overnight date in episode 8 and the moment of sharing a bed together helped the two get closer.

"I'm certain about the feelings I have, and I need to tell you. Dai, I want to tell you that, I love you."
Dai replied:
"Shun, I love you too. I do."
They both kissed and hugged after confessing their feeling for each other. The commentators of the show appreciated Shun for stepping up in the end as he shared what was in his heart.
