Love is Blind: Mexico ended on Sunday, August 18, 2024, with the release of the reunion episode. The cast members reunited yet again to discuss their experience and their takeaway. While most struggled to walk away with a fairytale ending, Karen and Fernando, the only couple to get married on the show, revealed they were happily living together.
The reunion was not deprived of drama as many utilized the get-together to confront their ex-partners about their actions on the show. One such couple was Francesca and Willy. They confessed their incompatibility was the prime cause for their separation. They disagreed on several topics, especially the topic of finances.
While Willy believed the financial burden was for both to bear, Francesca stated it was solely the man's responsibility. The former Love is Blind: Mexico couple agreed they were raised with contrasting ideologies. Francesca even returned the cedar tree pendant Willy gifted her during their proposal. She claimed it had lost its value.
Their conversation at the reunion showed how unhappy they had been with each other. It also erased the possibility of any reconciliation between them.
Love is Blind: Mexico stars Francesca and Willy agree they were never on the same page
Willy and Francesca got engaged in Love is Blind: Mexico episode 3. Their relationship started on a positive note but crumbled soon after they exited the pods. They quickly realized that the values each of them cherished conflicted with the other's.
Willy initially hesitated to discuss marriage because it was something new for him. Nonetheless, he gradually mustered the courage and looked forward to getting married to Francesca. Things worsened in the later episodes when he realized how emotionally distant he was from his fiancee.
The Love is Blind: Mexico star knew Francesca and he lacked the compatibility necessary for a couple. When he mentioned it to Francesca, it led to a heated argument. Feeling misled, Francesca accused him of being a "coward," incapable of expressing himself before.
A video of Willy and Gerardo's conversation about Francesca was played at the reunion, revealing their points of conflict. Willy disagreed with how Francesca wished to handle finances.
"For her, it means the man taking care of everything. She's responsible for keeping up a beautiful home, for having s*x with the husband. I was like, 'No f**king way.' I was like, 'This is 1860,' " said Willy.
He explained they came from "totally different backgrounds." He grew up with a working mother, whereas Francesca grew up, watching her father provide for the family. The Love is Blind: Mexico cast member confessed it was a "fundamental aspect" he considered before making his final decision on the wedding day.
When asked to explain her ideology, Francesca mentioned she grew up in an environment where the father was seen as "the patriarch." He took care of the wife and the children.
Meanwhile, Willy noted how his mother provided for the family alongside his father. She was "her own gardener" who solved her own problems. He added that his demands stemmed from what he saw growing up. Talking about Francesca, he said:
"She's not wrong, nor am I. They're just different points of view."
Owing to their differences, Francesca decided against marrying Willy on their wedding day. She believed she deserved better. Having parted ways, she wished to return the cedar tree pendant Willy gave her when he proposed.
Willy requested Francesca to keep the family heirloom because it had "emotional value" for her. However, she claimed it was of no value. The Love is Blind: Mexico star said cedar meant "temperance, strength, and resilience," qualities she believed Willy needed to instill within himself.
"I closed my cycle. I think the right thing to do is to give you what belonged to your dad that I'm not interested in," said Francesca.
When she said it was wrong to leave a woman "with something in her hands," Willy countered her by stating that it only showcased "poor manners" if someone rejected a gift. The hosts changed the subject as Francesca walked away from the conversation.
