In RuPaul's Drag Race season 17 episode 2, Hormona Lisa faced a dramatic twist that resulted in her surviving another week in the competition, despite initially being in the bottom. This episode introduced a new, game-changing element to the series—a random lever twist that would offer eliminated queens a chance to stay.

Among 10 random levers, the contestant had to choose the one that would send judge Michelle Visage into a dunk tank. Hormona Lisa's fate took a surprising turn as she successfully pulled the right lever, allowing her to remain in the competition.

Hormona Lisa's performance and the Rate-a-Queen twist

In the RuPaul's Drag Race episode, the queens were tasked with showcasing their talents in various performances. Hormona Lisa’s attempt at stand-up comedy, however, did not resonate well with her fellow contestants, leading to her being ranked lowest in the Rate-A-Queen voting.

This placed her in the bottom alongside Acacia Forgot, the last-place finisher from the previous week. The two queens were then called to lip-sync for their survival in the competition.

Unfortunately, Hormona Lisa lost the lip-sync battle, but the twist introduced this season gave her another chance. Queens who were eliminated were allowed to choose from one of 10 levers, which had varying consequences. If a queen pulled the right lever, they would stay in the competition for at least one more week. If not, they would be eliminated as originally planned.

The twist and Hormona Lisa's survival

Hormona Lisa approached the set of levers carefully, inspecting each one before making her choice. In an unusual moment, she even licked the lever before selecting No. 7. This proved to be a lucky choice, as pulling lever No. 7 caused judge Michelle Visage to fall into a vat of water known as the Badonka Dunk Tank.

With this, Hormona Lisa was granted the opportunity to remain in the competition, marking the first time the twist was successful on the main stage of RuPaul’s Drag Race. RuPaul congratulated Hormona Lisa, saying:

“Wow, conDRAGulations! You are free to slay another day, Hormona Lisa!”

In addition to her reprieve, Hormona won a trip to Las Vegas as part of the twist. Hormona’s reaction to the turn of events was captured in a tear-filled confessional, where she expressed her gratitude.

“I'm just so filled with joy and filled with relief. I thank God, I thank Ru, I thank my phalanges for grabbing the lever and pulling it back,”adding, “I'm just so happy to be here!”

Reaction from fellow contestant Acacia Forgot

While Hormona Lisa was overjoyed by the twist, her survival was met with dissatisfaction from some of the other queens. Acacia Forgot, who was also in the bottom two, voiced her frustration in a RuPaul's Drag Race confessional.

“Hormona is saved, and I am over it,” she said.

Acacia’s disappointment set the stage for tensions to rise in future episodes, as the queens prepared to face the results of the Rate-A-Queen voting, saying in the same confessional,

“I did not put in all this work for no one to go home!”

As RuPaul's Drag Race episode 2 concluded, a teaser previewed the upcoming drama, particularly centered around the results of the Rate-A-Queen twist. The queens would gather in the Werk Room to discuss the rankings, and the preview revealed that Sam Star was not pleased with Lydia B Kollins’ voting choices.
