Irene Walker from My 600-Lb Life grew up in an abusive household
A Houston resident, Irene Walker revealed on the show that she grew up in an abusive household, where her father would abuse her mother. To cope with the depression, she turned to food.
"When I'm eating, it helps me forget everything else and block out a lot, you know because when I have any of my favorite food, all the hurt of me is taken away, except the food is gone."
The My 600-lb Life cast member realized that food which was "her only source of happiness" gradually became an addiction. Her family members would bring her whatever she wanted to eat while she waited for it sitting on the couch.
At 16 years old, Irene Walker walked into an abusive relationship with her then-boyfriend, who left her when she got pregnant. She turned to food yet again to tackle the stress revolving around her pregnancy and gained more weight.
According to her Facebook page, Irene is currently single.
On the show, Irene opened up about living at a metro bus stop with her sons, following the death of her parents. She was brought to a shelter home, from where she was eventually evicted due to another pregnancy. Over the next few years, Irene gave birth to three more children and turned to alcohol and drugs to cope with the stress and trauma of being alone and homeless.
"I turned to drugs because I was depressed and I was hanging around the wrong people."
She "lost her mind" when Child Protective Services took her three youngest children away from her. According to her Instagram posts, fans speculate Irene Walker is working on herself and hopefully working on getting her children back. She has shared images of all her children, with one caption reading:
"One thing about me I got my flaws but my kids is my pride."
In another Instagram post shared on October 25, 2023, Irene celebrates her one-year sobriety.
On the show, Irene Walker was given three chances by Dr. Younan "Now" Nowzaradan to lose 60 pounds in two months to qualify for bariatric surgery. Irene struggled initially but eventually lost the required weight to qualify for the surgery.
By the end of the show, she was losing 10 pounds each month, and viewers of My 600-lb Life speculate that Irene Walker continued to go down that road. However, it is difficult to confirm since Irene has no updates regarding this on any of her social media handles.
There is a review on her Facebook page for Dr. Now, where Irene says:
"Dr. Now is brilliant, wonderful, and professional doctor he tells u the truth he's blunt and don't sugar coat anything .. I would recommend him to family and friends... I rate 5 (stars)"
There are only a couple of comments on some of her posts that say "looking good," but it cannot be confirmed if Irene continued losing weight, since she only posts pictures of her face.
