My 600-Lb Life is a reality TV series that covers the difficult weight-loss journey of people dealing with excessive obesity. Each episode highlights Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, a bariatric surgeon who takes patients through stringent diets and surgical treatments to help them live healthier lives. Among the notable participants from season 5, episodes 13 and 14 are the Assanti brothers, Justin and Steven.

After their appearance on My 600-Lb Life in March and April 2017, Steven reportedly got married to Stephanie Sanger. However, their relationship has since faced difficulties, including speculations about their separation. Meanwhile, Justin has focused on running his business, Hobby Haven, where he sells Warhammer miniatures and games.

Despite their shared past, the brothers have pursued distinct paths since their time on the show. Their journey after the show has been captured in a TLC special titled The Saga of the Assanti Brothers | My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?, released on November 16, 2023.

During their debut on My 600-Lb Life, the Assanti brothers took various approaches to their weight loss adventures. Steven, the bigger of the two, weighed more than 800 pounds and struggled to stick to his diet and exercise plan. His problems were exacerbated by substance misuse, and he was booted out of the hospital during one of the episodes.

Despite these difficulties, Steven claimed that had lost over 300 pounds in the 2023 special Where Are They Now?. However, Dr. Nowzaradan suspected that he lost relatively fewer pounds. Steven weighed approximately 500 pounds at the time.

On June 29, 2024, Steven mentioned on his Instagram post:

"I'm standing at 790 pounds, the painkillers must be strong."

Justin, on the other hand, was more reserved during the performance and did a better job sticking to his weight-loss plan. He eventually qualified for bariatric surgery and reported shedding 200 pounds following the treatment. Justin's weight once exceeded 600 pounds but made significant progress since then.

As per the latest update, he has continued to prioritize his health, as reflected in his Instagram post dated August 7, 2024:

"1150 to 750, 400 pounds lost 🥰."

Steven Assanti's marriage and separation

Steven Assanti's life changed dramatically after he appeared on My 600-Lb Life and reportedly married Stephanie Sanger. The couple's relationship appeared promising at first, with Stephanie defending Steven and arguing that the show had merely highlighted his flaws. In an interview with Starcasm published on June 15, 2018, she stated:

“His face, his eyes and hair, I think he’s beautiful. Beauty is skin deep and he has a heart of gold….[Steven is] nothing like how he was perceived on the TV show at all or on his YouTube videos. He’s a gentleman and a fantastic lover and lover of life in general."

Stephanie was a fan of My 600-Lb Life before getting romantically engaged with Steven, and their relationship started online. After meeting in person, they instantly agreed to live together in Iowa. However, the marriage strained over time.

Posted by a Redditor using the handle Defawk six years ago, Stephanie allegedly tweeted a cartoon ridiculing Steven's Vicodin use, fueling online conjecture about their relationship.

This sparked suspicions of marital problems. However, the pair has still not made any public statement regarding this matter.

Justin Assanti's personal life and business ventures

Unlike his brother, Justin Assanti mainly avoided the spotlight since his appearance on My 600-Lb Life. Justin continued to concentrate on his own hobbies and business ventures. Justin currently manages Hobby Haven, a store that specializes in miniature wargames such as Warhammer.

His affinity for these games is clear on his social media sites, where he discusses business updates as well as his enthusiasm for the Warhammer universe.

In October 2021, Showbiz Cheatsheet reported that the brothers were not on speaking terms. There is no update on their bond as of 2024.
