Love After Lockup released episode 49, High Risk Lies, on Friday, November 29, 2024. In the episode, Justine and Michael visited their OB-GYN for a checkup to see how their baby was doing. At 38 weeks pregnant, Justine was ready to give birth and close the pregnancy chapter. Although it was draining for both Justine and Michael, they were excited about their son's birth.
However, their excitement turned into worry when the doctor diagnosed the baby with Intrauterine Growth Restriction or IUGR, which meant that the baby was significantly underweight. The doctor explained that Justine's repeated pregnancies did not give her uterus the time to heal which caused the complications.
She suggested they have an early delivery so the baby could be saved or else if they waited the full term there was a chance it could die inside or be a stillborn. Waiting longer could also put Justine at risk of dying due to a postpartum hemorrhage.
When Justine broke down, Michael asked her to inform her mother about the early delivery. The Love After Lockup star was caught off guard when her mother asked her to state the emergency type. She refused to show urgency and hung up on her saying she would call back after her appointment. Justine was moved to tears, while Michael consoled her.
"This just doesn't feel good" — Love After Lockup star Justine breaks down during her checkup
Justine was only two weeks away from her due date when she visited her OB-GYN for a checkup. She confessed that she was in pain and ready to give birth. At 38 weeks pregnant, the Love After Lockup star revealed that she sweat profusely and struggled with basic activities like climbing stairs.
When Justine was lying on the bed, the doctor informed the Love After Lockup couple that the high-risk department had given her a call to let her know that the baby was measuring a "little bit behind." She explained that her child was growth-restricted since its estimated weight was at the 7 percentile when it should be over 10.
When she added that the situation put the child and the mother in the "danger area," Michael asked the doctor to elaborate. She explained that there was a chance Justine's placenta could stop working which would prevent the baby from getting any nutrition, causing its death. Although the baby's heart was beating and looking strong, she recommended Justine to have an early delivery.
"We have to take the safer approach," Michael added.
The doctor informed the Love After Lockup couple that she would have NICU ready in case the baby had trouble breathing after delivery. Justine felt overwhelmed and was moved to tears.
"This just doesn't feel good. I'm scared," she said.
The doctor recommended that they not consider having any more children because it would be a high-risk scenario with both mother and child's lives at risk. Michael was nervous and requested that Justine's surgery be scheduled as soon as possible.
While speaking to the cameras, the Love After Lockup star admitted the process was "scary" because many things could go wrong. Meanwhile, Justine stressed the importance of sorting out the wills and deeds so he was prepared in case anything happened to her.
With such a major surgery scheduled, Michael asked Justine to call her mother, Sherry. Although Justine was hesitant, Michael stated that Sherry needed to know. Since they were not on talking terms, Justine wondered if her mother would care.
"Maybe for one day, in a very long time, she can make me feel like I'm her daughter and you know, a little love from mom would be good," Justine said.
Justine requested that Sherry fly out to her since there was an emergency and she was caught in some issues. Contrary to Justine's expectations, her mother asked her to specify "what the emergency is." She added that the situation should be "some real f**king emergency" if Justine were asking her to fly out.
Sherry hung up on Justine when she refused to disclose what she was going through. Michael insisted that Justine was honest about her situation, but the Love After Lockup star said she did not need her mother to be there. Although Justine was disappointed, she knew she could do nothing to satisfy her mother. Michael consoled her and said she could not change every person's behavior.
After a while, the doctor arrived and advised her not to do any major activities before her surgery since it could complicate things. Hearing that, Justine got emotional wondering if she could prepare for her daughter, Manhattan's first birthday.
While speaking to the cameras, Michael confessed that he did not want to "rob" Manhattan of her first birthday so they decided to celebrate it a week earlier. However, he was worried it would put Justine at risk. He criticized her adamant behavior and accused her of having "single mother syndrome."
"I don't care how much pain I'm in, I'm doing it," Justine said.
Love After Lockup airs Fridays at 8 pm ET exclusively on WeTV.
