What happened to Tonia on Outlast season 2 episode 5? Medical emergency explained

Tonia was the last contestant selected for a team on Outlast season 2. As a result, she was added to the Alpha team by default, which was short of one person. By episode 4, only Tonia and Tre were left on the team. The two tried to stay strong and work through everything; however, it wasn't enough for Tonia.

Tonia was not feeling good at the end of the Outlast episode and wanted to be checked out by a medic. She lost consciousness by the time the medical team arrived and had to be taken out of her camp. The medical team took her off the island and placed her in an ambulance for immediate treatment.

Tonia was taken out of Netflix's Outlast game and felt sorry that she left Tre alone. However, she was grateful for his company and said that even though she didn't make it, she gained a family member in Tre.

At the start of Outlast season 2 episode 5, the show updated the viewers on Tonia's health and said she was treated for hypothermia.

"Tonia was transported to Petersburg Medical Center, where she was treated for hypothermia (due to extreme cold exposure), hypoglycemia (due to malnutrition), and dehydration. This has forced her to exit the game," the show informed.

How did Tonia get sick on Outlast season 2?

It all started when Tre made snail and starfish soup in episode 4 of Outlast season 2. He said a person's body relaxes once they start chewing the meat. He was happy with how the soup turned out and offered it to Tonia. Before consuming the soup, she said she might throw up if it didn't sit well with her. While she did not like the taste, it was a moral boost for her.

While they had two sets of hands instead of four, they stayed strong and pulled enough strength to push through. Tre and Tonia had everything figured out and had everything in place despite the overall low morale.

Despite all the suffering, Tonia shared in her confessional that she rarely builds a bond with anyone. So, building an incredible bond with another person was unheard of. However, she felt a good connection with Tre and was grateful.

Tre also felt a deep family bond with Tonia and said in his confessional that he would do anything she asked for and that she would do the same. He added that they had to work as a team and persevere.

Tonia was optimistic about the situation and said they could make it happen. However, by the end of day 14, she almost gave up. It was a rough day for her, and she was exhausted and had no motivation or energy. She was frustrated because the fire kept cooling down despite her repeated efforts.

Tonia tried to sleep through the night but couldn't due to the seafood she had. She said she couldn't keep the seafood in and needed to throw up. Tre apologized for the seafood; however, she assured him it wasn't his fault and had to try the snail and starfish soup.

Vomiting made it worse because she could not stay still, and she became uneasy. Tre did his best to take care of her and even offered his blanket to keep her warm.

In the middle of the night, around 3 am, Tonia woke up and informed Tre that she was not feeling okay. She said she had a weird feeling in her head and told Tre she wanted to get checked up by a medic.

The Medic asked her if she needed any treatment, and she said she just wanted to be evaluated. However, she lost consciousness mid-conversation and could not respond to any questions. She was taken for imitation treatment and was off the Outlast game.
