The Challenge 40 aired its third episode on August 28, 2024, at 8 pm ET/PT on MTV and Paramount+. In the episode, Tony Raines and Jodi Weatherton were eliminated, but before that, the cast had a toga party to let loose from the competition and have fun.
However, the fun got out of hand as Tori Deal and Josh Martinez got into a heated argument after the former made sly comments about Nia's involvement with both Josh and Kyland. Nia was seen having fun with Josh in the pool by the morning time but later became intimate with Kyland in the shower.
Seeing the events prompted the drunk cast of The Challenge 40 to poke fun at Josh, even calling him a "pimp." Josh, who could hear Nia and Kyland in the next room and the other castmates in the hall, confronted his friend Tori for joining in with others and not defending him. In a one-on-one with the cameras, he said he wasn't expecting much from Nia as she was "single" and was free to do whatever she liked.
"But hearing Tori in the mix, somebody who is supposed to be my really good friend and have my back, that's the one thing that's just starting to p**s me off," stated Josh.
Josh confronted Tori for "clowning" him and claimed that she wasn't acting like a friend as she had previously nominated Josh for elimination in The Challenge USA 2. Tori assured Josh that she was his friend and was willing to talk about the situation.
"I'm always gonna be your friend. I'm always gonna be in your corner. So, whenever you're ready to talk about it, I'm here," said Tori.
Josh stood by his words and said that even though he loved her, he no longer believed they were friends. Josh's reply made Tori emotional, and she tearfully told him that she was "mad" that he replied to her in this way.
Events of The Challenge 40: Battle Of The Eras episode 3 explored
Season 40, also dubbed Battle Of The Eras, features contestants from past seasons and is divided into four eras. The challengers need to compete in the Era Invitational to eliminate the weakest contestants and progress to the Challenge Era. The winning contestant will earn $1 million in prize money.
In the August 28 episode, the challengers had to compete in the 'Gladieater.' The show's host, TJ Lavin, revealed that the challengers must race to dragon boats, row around the island, and then eat a plate of Vietnamese delicacies like coconut worms, snakes, rats, boiled cow eyes, pig brains, and duck embryos. After this, they had to place 40 shields in perfect order to finish.
Even though Tony and Averey from Era 3 won the competition, they failed to nominate anyone from Era 2 and Era 4 to compete against Era 1, which lost. Between the toga party and all the trials and tribulations that a showmance can bring, Tony and Averey kept arguing about their choices.
Averey wanted to save Era 2 because all her connections were present in that era, while Tony had other ideas. He had made a pact with Josh that if he saved Era 4, he would return the favor later in the game.
After failing to reach a consensus, the winners of Gladieater were sent up to compete against Era 1, which resulted in Tony and Jodi's elimination from the competition.
