Outlast season 2 introduced viewers to four teams who survive in the wild by hunting basic necessities. Competing for the grand prize of a million dollars, all contestants must give their best to remain in the game. At any point in the game, a player can shoot the flare in the sky and back out or even get eliminated from his own team.
Previously in episode 2, the Alpha team's Bayo shot a flare and was no longer a part of their team after he attacked the Bravo camp. The remaining players in the Alpha camp were Tre, Tonia, and Zack, who were "communicating well" with each other and deciding their next step.
The trio agreed they had to complete their shelter so they don't freeze during the nighttime. While gathering wood to build their shelter, the Outlast contestant Zack fell on his back. Due to this injury, Zack couldn't get up and lay on the ground until his teammates Tre and Tonia decided to call for medical help.

In episode 3, Zack was upset about firing the flare and that his journey on the show was to end so soon. Outlast season 2 episode 3 titled Two Battles at Once synopsis reads:
"An injury puts an Alpha player at risk as Bri scrambles to join a new team before time runs out. Charlie Camp grapples with dropping temperatures."
Alpha team's second flare on Outlast season 2 episode 3
In Outlast season 2 episode 3, Zack told the cameras that his back was "tightening" taking his ability to move. He was disappointed that he had to leave his team, as a pair trying to survive in the harsh weather conditions and other challenges.
During his confessional interview, Cack stated it was his "worst fear" to be eliminated especially after their team had already lost one member and was working as a trio. He continued:
"I hurt my lower back so bad. When I fell on my back, I knew I hurt it. I just didn't really know how bad. As soon as I tired to get up, then I realized that, you know, my worst fears were coming true."
Tre also mentioned that the entire situation was "pretty damn bad." After Bayo left, they were figuring out how to work as a trio. Now after Zack's injury, the situation got even worse as Tre and Tonia struggled to maintain their position in the game.
Tre stated that Zack's injury was serious as he is a professional fighter who is used to getting hurt. Tre further stated:
"Coming from a big guy who fights professionally, I mean, he's used to getting kicked, punched, dropped, choked out. For him to say he's in excruciating pain and he can't move, you know it's pretty damn bad."
The Outlast cast member Zack was quite disappointed and said that he didn't want to let his team down. Tre told him to focus on his health because it was more important than this game. Tre said:
"Your health is more important than the game. Thats hands down, dude."
The Alpha camp was left with only two players who were thinking about their next strategy and looking for a new member to join them.
