A brief recap of The Challenge 40 episode 1
At the start of The Challenge 40 episode 1, the contestants were taken in a storage trailer to their first location Vietnam. Here they were divided into 4 eras based on the seasons they were in. Era I covered seasons 1-10, Era II covered seasons 11-20, Era III covered seasons 21-30, and Era IV covered seasons 31-39.
But before they could unleash their wild side, the cast members were hit with nostalgia, and one of the long-time competitors C.T. Tamburello got emotional about being back on the show.
Host T.J. presented the first challenge, the "Era Invitational." In this, each era had to compete against one another and those who came in last would go to the elimination round. The winners would choose the elimination round opponents for the losing contestants and 8 of them will be eliminated immediately.
Rachel and C.T. won from Era I, while Mark and Katie finished last. Laurel secured the victory for women in Era II and Johnny won for the men. Tori won the challenge for the Era III women beating Nia and Lero. In Era IV, Horacio and Michele won while Horacio's girlfriend Nurys went to the elimination round.
After the challenge, the cast was taken to their luxurious mansion. While others were discussing their strategies going forward, older-era jokes about not having to share bunk beds like they used to. In the end, the winners had to make a decision and C.T. was scratching his brains on whether to save his friend Darrell or a fellow stronger teammate.
