The Great British Bake Off season 15 episode 5 recap
The Great British Bake Off season 15 episode 5 was centered around Pastry Week where the bakers had the work their way through three challenges that tested their finesse and patience.
In the signature challenge, the contestants had to present their versions of frangipane tarts. Gill thrived with her pistachio frangipane tarts, while others, including Nelly and Illyin, struggled.
In the technical round, bakers had to prepare spinach and feta spanakopita in two and a half hours. Most contestants encountered the dreaded 'soggy bottom' due to wet spinach. Dylan managed to overcome the challenges and received the top spot in the baking, with Christiaan taking second place.
The showstopper challenge had an extra layer of complexity as the contestants had to make a Paris Brest with an edible cake stand. Gill impressed the judges with her lemon thyme-infused Paris Brest atop a sturdy orange biscuit base and was crowned Star Baker of the Week.
Andy's attempt ended in disaster, and his Paris Brest failed, resulting in his elimination from the competition.
