Love After Lockup season 5 premiered on July 26, 2024, on WeTV. As the name suggests, this reality TV series follows the life of numerous couples in challenging situations. Meeting in person after their partner's prison release, the couples navigate their relationship going forward.

In an Instagram post uploaded on September 12, 2024, Shonta Ashley mentioned how she expressed herself on the camera. Referring to her being vulnerable and showing her emotional side on the show, the Love After Lockup cast member opened up stating:
"Y'all will never see me how y'all seen me on that TV screen, crying and losing myself. I am the prize no matter what the situation I'm in and it took me a lot of time to realize that."
In the same post, Ashley disclosed her future plan of opening a restaurant and providing a fulfilling life to her kids. The Love and Lockup star stated she is now financially stable and wouldn't let anyone contribute to her stress. Fans speculated that this statement might have been directed towards True. Ashley continued:
