Latest updates on the Rhythm + Flow season 2 cast after the show
1) DreTL
DreTL, an Atlanta-based artist, took the top spot in Rhythm + Flow season 2. He was crowned the winner after growing so much throughout the competition that he was praised for his consistent improvement.
Speaking with Tudum in December 2024, DreTL recalled his biggest moment from the show. According to him, one of the most pivotal experiences he had was performing in front of Eminem.
"Once I was able to perform in front of him, I felt like I was going to win, because nothing was tougher than that. This is the Eminem, and if I could do this right there in front of him, I can do anything in the world. I can fly."
Although DreTL received the grand prize, he said that he was not so keen on getting rich and hit records. Instead, he was concentrating on doing "genuine, good art.". After the season finale aired, DreTL dropped several new tracks like High Definition, along with two singles—Like I Never Left and Don't Call It A Comeback."
In addition to his music career, DreTL will graduate from Georgia State University in December 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in the music industry. He shared:
"Most importantly, I hold dear the education I received here — something that no one can ever take away from me."
He shared his pride in being the first in his family to achieve this milestone, saying:
"As a first-generation college graduate, this moment is even more meaningful and I’m proud to be a positive example for the next generation."
2) Jay Taj
Jay Taj may not have taken the Rhythm + Flow prize, but his bar-based storytelling continues to be remembered by his fans. Los Angeles-based, Taj is still active, making music with a focus on authenticity and self-expression. While speaking with Tudum, Taj showed great respect for DreTL, saying:
“I told him, ‘as long as it’s us two as the last two, then we won, bro.’”
He emphasized that both he and DreTL give their true selves to the world through their music. In November, Taj dropped an EP titled LITTLE JERRY DEMOS, featuring DreTL on one of the tracks.
Taj launched his single Believe Me from Rhythm + Flow on December 3. Besides his music career, he has offered insights into his personal life, featuring his pitbull-lab mix pet, Syrus, who has an Instagram account under the handle @syrusthepup.
3) Sura Ali
Sura Ali faced significant health challenges during the Rhythm + Flow competition. After the show, she was hospitalized due to a vitamin B12 deficiency, which led to severe fatigue and required two blood transfusions.
Ali shared her experience with Bossip on December 3, explaining the severity of her condition and her determination to continue competing despite her health issues.
"It’s not that serious when you hear about it, but when you’re dealing with it and not getting enough oxygen to your organs and you are fatigued all the time… I didn’t know what was going on," Ali said.
Despite these struggles, Ali has continued to pursue her music career, releasing her single "R+N+F" on December 3. She also operates a custom clothing business called Nunu Jeans, according to her Instagram bio on @the.suraali.
4) Detroit Diamond
Detroit Diamond made a lasting impression on the Rhythm + Flow judges with her energy. Her performance of Pressure in the competition garnered praise, and she released that single right after the show ended.
Diamond, who had suffered the loss of her brother, a rapper named D-Beezy, said that music helped her out of the darkness after his death. In August 2023, Diamond revealed how writing music helped her get out of that dark space after her brother died in 2014 during an interview with Shoutout LA.
Now, Diamond aims to build generational wealth for her family in the future. In November 2024, she shared this vision with Tudum.
"I want to leave them a real legacy. I want to be able to touch the people and heal them through my music. I want my music to lead to investments, movies, deals, and bigger opportunities all over the world."
Netflix has yet to confirm whether Rhythm + Flow will return for a third season, but the first two seasons remain available for streaming.
