In many ways, Toni Braxton’s popularity served as the prime reason for the show gaining prominence. Following the former’s breakout fame in the early ‘90s, the sisters formed a musical group called The Braxtons, which released its first solo album titled So Many Ways in 1996.

The family shot up to massive attention when they launched their reality TV series. Braxton Family Values premiered on We TV in 2011 and made them household names along with their mother. A candid narration of their personal struggles, career challenges, and shared stories, the show became one of the channel’s most successful ones.

Exploring their lives, the show’s grounded exploration of real family dynamics made it relatable. Furthermore, the manner in which it portrayed the complexities of managing everyday affairs, family, and relationships earned it a mass appeal, turning it almost into a cultural phenomenon.

In 2020, the global pandemic became one of the several reasons why Braxton Family Values ended its seven-season run. However, internal family conflicts also played a large role in the breakup.

While the members clashed at times on camera, tensions intensified when a few of them reportedly felt exploited for entertainment. Tamar Braxton, in particular, had an intensely public fallout, ultimately leading to her exit.

Conflicts with the TV network over contact and finances became another flash point. A walkout during the sixth season brought this to public attention.

Finally, Toni Braxton's illness and Traci Braxton’s passing left a further void in the cast. A focus on sorting out personal differences took priority, which the family members have spoken of to the media.

Braxton Family Values returned as The Braxtons, primarily to honor the final wish of its late member. During her battle with cancer, Traci had reportedly shared a strong desire for the reunification of her family on television.

The new reality series will continue the legacy of its predecessor while updating fans on everything that transpired in the meantime. Additionally, their personal and professional endeavors in these few years should take the spotlight, as would their attempts to kick off a fresh start.

The Braxtons is a renewed attempt at bringing back the band of sisters together to honor their shared legacy and pay their tributes to the late Traci Braxton.
