The Great British Bake Off season 15 premiered on September 24 on Channel 4 and introduced a new batch of bakers competing for the title of Best Amateur Baker.
Sumayah Kazi was eliminated in the latest episode after placing last in the technical round. Her showstopper, a 'Batik Mousse Cake' tiramisu, suffered from an uneven break and was critiqued by the judges as a "work in progress" in terms of flavor.
The rest of the eliminated contestants include Nelly Ghaffar, Andy Ryan, Mike Wilkins, John Mincher, Hazel Vaughan, and Jeff.
The Great British Bake Off 2024: Seven contestants have been eliminated so far
Episode 2 - Biscuit Week: Hazel Vaughan and Jeff
Jeff was the first The Great British Bake Off contestant to be eliminated from the show. He left early on in episode 2 due to his ill health. Despite the exit, the episode continued, and Hazel's ‘Punch & Judy’ Biscuit Puppet fell short of impressing the judges in the showstopper and led to her elimination.
"That's OK, I did expect it. All my bakes went wrong. Maybe I won't make biscuit puppet theatres anymore!," Hazel said after her elimination.
Episode 3 - Bread Week: John Mincher
John faced a challenging signature round with his "Yamas!" savory buns, which revealed large steam pockets and a dry interior when opened. He placed 9th in the technical challenge, and his showstopper, the "Horn of Pride" cornucopia, fell short, with overproved bagels and underproved, flavorless buns. Reacting to his exit the contestant said:
"It is fine, it was expected, it was just a bad week this week. It’s just how it is. Because everyone is so talented, you drop the ball and then it is your time to go."
Episode 4 - Caramel Week: Mike Wilkins
Mike presented "Dad’s Favourite Caramel Biscuits" during the signature challenge. Despite adding his family touch to the recipe, Judge Paul criticized his biscuits for bulging. He placed 7th in the technical challenge, but it was his Coffee Popcorn Mousse Cake in the showstopper round that ultimately led to his elimination.
After his elimination, the The Great British Bake Off baker reacted:
"I feel it was my time to go, I am just this little farmer who does baking in the kitchen. I feel the quality of what everyone else is doing is just breathtaking. And yes I am going to miss everyone. That's why I am sad. [Cries] One thing my mum said to me was, 'Don't cry.'"
Episode 5 - Pastry Week: Andy Ryan
During Pastry Week, contestants were tasked with preparing 12 frangipane tarts for their signature challenge. Andy dedicated his creations to his family, following recipes passed down through generations. Unfortunately, the judges felt his pastry was overbaked.
For the showstopper challenge, he presented a Paris-Brest titled "All You Need Is Love," but his stand shattered as he attempted to place it. Reacting to his exit the The Great British Bake Off contestant said:
"I have had so many laughs. But that's the standard... C'est la vie!"
Episode 6 - Autumn Week: Nelly Ghaffar
While Nelly's ‘Out in Nature’ apple and poppy seed pie was liked by the judges, they felt that the pie needed a little longer time in the oven. She placed 5th in the technical challenge and was eliminated when her "Woman in Autumn" cake for the Showstopper challenge became slightly too dense under its weight.
"I know my children are so proud. It’s not to teach them to win, it is to teach them to enjoy. Don’t cry! Everyone is crying... I learnt who I am! And that I’m worthy!" Nelly said after her exit.
Episode 7 - Dessert Week: Sumayah Kazi
After winning the star baker title just last week, Sumayah struggled to impress the judges in Dessert Week. Her signature challenge received mixed reviews, and her showstopper was met with unanimous disappointment from the panel.
Everyone on The Great British Bake Off 2024 knew the talent she had and was sad to see her leave. Reacting to her elimination Sumayah said:
"I feel like it wasn't one specific event that let me down, it was just kind of a series of mistakes here and there. I have learned to be more confident in myself and my ideas."
Season 15 contestants who are still on the show
Only five bakers are left out of the 12 contestants who enter the competition. The bakers still in the run are:

- Georgie, a 34-years-old Paediatric Nurse from Carmarthenshire
- Gill, a 53-years-old Senior Category Manager from Lancashire
