Hell's Kitchen season 23 recap so far
Episode 1: Introduction and signature dish challenge
The opening segment of season 23 of Hell's Kitchen introduced the audience to an intense competition featuring eighteen head chefs in the ultimate culinary confrontation.
The focal point of the show was the competition between the Red and Blue teams in the Signature Dish Challenge. By edging out the opposition with a score of 40-38, the Red Team was able to book their meal with Gordon Ramsay.
The cooks were clearly under pressure, especially the Blue Team, which had the difficult duty of unloading trucks and filling kitchens. While no one was eliminated, the tension among them was evident. Ramsay left the competition on a cliffhanger, stating that the real challenge would begin during the upcoming dinner service.
Episode 2: The flame game and Amber's elimination
Episode 2, titled The Flame Game, aired on October 3. The chefs participated in a flambé challenge, followed by their first dinner service. While the Red Team struggled with undercooked chicken and Magali's raw salmon, the Blue Team faced an even greater setback when Shant’s decision to add water to risotto led to Ramsay's outburst.
At the end of the dinner service, both teams were sent out of the kitchen, and four chefs were nominated for elimination: Amber and Magali from the Red Team, and Shant and Michael from the Blue Team.
Ultimately, Amber was sent home after failing to deliver at the scallop station. Ramsay stated:
“Amber’s inability to cook or even count scallops was all I needed to know that I couldn’t count on her to be my next head chef.”
Episode 3: Seafood tower challenge and Corbin's elimination
The teams' culinary prowess was put to the test in the third episode, Shucking Hell, which aired on October 10. The episode featured a seafood theme, and in the seafood tower competition, the Red Team defeated the Blue Team, winning 6 to 5. As a result, the Blue Team was tasked with cleaning 100 pounds of mussels, while the Red Team got to enjoy a treat of kayaking along the Mystic River.
During the punishment, Shant and Uri suffered from back pain, ultimately leading both chefs to withdraw from the competition due to their injuries. The dinner service that followed saw further tension in the Blue Team as Egypt's dominant personality clashed with his teammates.
After a series of mistakes, including Corbin’s overcooked scallops and Egypt’s overcooked salmon, the Blue Team faced elimination. Ultimately, Corbin was sent home, with Ramsay declaring:
“Corbin may be tall in stature, but tonight he was short on talent.”
What to expect in upcoming episodes of Hell's Kitchen?
The chefs will have to deal with progressively more difficult tasks in the next episodes, which could lead to heated arguments and tensions in the kitchen.
With Shant and Uri's exits leaving the Blue Team shorthanded by two, the surviving chefs will need to perform better to avoid losing any more members.
The fourth episode of season 23 of Hell's Kitchen will air on Fox on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 8/7 pm CT.
