"I enlisted for training two weeks after I graduated from high school. I did six appointments and I'm like super proud to have been an Army Ranger, but the last mission I ever went on I almost didn't come back from."
He narrated how he and his team encountered a grenade explosion that put their lives at risk.
"I woke up in Washington D.C. and that was like day one of the next two months of my life," said Marcus.
Despite his experience in the army, he claimed it was an enlightening experience. It made him realize the value of being alive and the happiness of living a normal life. He said he would not have been able to indulge in the joys of living without having the experience in the army.
3) Marcus' time on The Bachelorette
During his introduction, Marcus revealed he had not been in a relationship in five years. However, he was ready to be "in a relationship" and explore "the possibility of love." He hoped to achieve that with Jenn.
In the latest episode, released on Monday, August 12, 2024, Marcus went on a one-on-one date with Jenn. During the date, he connected with her on an emotional and deep level. He opened up about his parents and the difficulties he faced growing up in the foster care system.

"My sister, when we were young, when we were kids, were kind of born into a pretty rough situation. We had parents who couldn't really take care of us. They were a bit unstable and they weren't fit to be parents, and they brought us to daycare one day and just never came back for us," said Marcus.
He then said he had to step into his parent's shoes and take the responsibility of raising his sister. Jenn and Marcus bonded during their date, which made him a strong contender for the Bachelorette's heart.
