Rhythm + Flow: Brazil premiered its first four episodes on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. 18 aspiring rappers from different walks of life participated in Brazil's first musical reality show for a chance to win a R$ 500,000 prize and a place in Sintonia Season 5. The show provided the contestants with a platform to showcase their passion for hip-hop and establish their careers.
The debut season of Rhythm + Flow: Brazil featured Djonga, Tasha & Tracie, and Filipe Ret as the judges, mentoring the participants during their time on the competitive reality show. However, the journey was cut short for many rappers who failed to leave a lasting impression on the coaches.
In episode 3, Let's Get This Started! the show bid farewell to three rappers — Cold Jas, Gabrielu, and Rui'f. The judges based their decision on their battles' performance, explaining that despite their talent, they struggled to display unique content and variety.
Cold Jas and Gabrielu were disappointed with the outcome and regretted losing the opportunity to jump-start their careers through the competition.
Rhythm + Flow: Brazil Episode 3: Cold Jas lost her battle to Muse Maya
At the start of Episode 3, Afrodite and Maria Preta were at risk of going home, however, since each of their performances was at par with the other, the judges decided to reserve their decision for later, requesting some time to deliberate. However, it did not help Afrodite's nerves, who feared being sent home over Maria Preta.
In the meantime, the judges let the battles continue. Azzy invited Cold Jas and pitted her against Muse Maya. Cold Jas felt confident, saying she was playing her game, only showing the "tip of the iceberg." After the Rhythm + Flow: Brazil star finished her verse, Muse Maya was given 45 seconds to respond. Before starting, she said:
"I'm gonna put all the hatred that I can find in my heart into this battle."
Muse Maya's performance garnered a bigger response from the crowd. However, the judges felt she needed to improve her diction because they could not understand her words. With that said, they could not overlook her attitude and stage presence.
Although they complimented Cold Jas' "speed flow," they felt Muse Maya outperformed her, ending Cold Jas' time on the show.
"I don't like competitions because I hate losing. In fact, I despise it. But my experience here taught me that life is a challenge," Cold Jas said.
The next battle in Episode 3 of Rhythm + Flow: Brazil was between Gabrielu and Rui'f. Rui'f started their round while Gabrielu waited for their turn. The Rhythm + Flow: Brazil star planned to utilize the 45 seconds to use Rui'f's jokes against him.
After Gabrielu finished, Djonga told the other judges that despite having good rhymes, their performance lacked an artist's touch. Meanwhile, Rui'f was funny and could captivate the audience. When the mentors could not decide the battle's winner, they asked Gabrielu and Rui'f to face off again but with a changed order, which meant, Gabrielu would rap first.
Despite another round, Tasha failed to feel "the thrill of the battle" and said that Gabrielu and Rui'f's "punchlines weren't smashing." Tracie echoed Tasha's thoughts, claiming Gabrielu was "totally off the chain."
Before announcing the battle's winner, Djonga invited Afrodite and Maria Preta back onstage for a "different and unconventional" ending. In the presence of the four contestants, Filipe Ret disclosed that Gabrielu and Rui'f's battle lacked "a good amount of content." Although they delivered "good posture," the girls displayed "both posture and energy."
Consequently, the judges sent Gabrielu and Rui'f packing and advanced Maria Preta and Afrodite to the next round.
While speaking to Djonga about the elimination, Gabrielu said they disagreed with the outcome.
"I understand that me just being here opens up opportunities for others," the Rhythm + Flow: Brazil star said.
Rhythm + Flow: Brazil is available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
