America's Got Talent season 19 episode 3 aired on June 11, 8 pm ET, featuring a lineup of some note-worthy performances. In the third set of auditions, judges were impressed by the display of talent. However, the Argentinian malambo dance company, Legion, won the much coveted Golden Buzzer.
For the unversed, winners of the Golden Buzzer can skip the rounds following the audition and head straight to the live shows. It brings them closer to winning the grand prize of $1 million. Judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara can give two Golden Buzzers each, while host, Terry Crews, has one reserved for him.
America's Got Talent witnesses Legion's fiery dance performance
In AGT season 19 episode 3, Legion (a group of 10 dancers) walked on stage, donning all-black outfits adorned with leather detailing. Introducing themselves as an Argentinian Malambo company, the members revealed:
"We have regular jobs. We teach, we are in construction, we are in hardware stores, so, we rehearse all week, 2 am, before and after our real jobs."
When asked if they could win America's Got Talent, they appeared confident with their positive response. With the help of the prize money, they shared that they wish to open their studio, where they could work on their artistry and craft it to perfection.
Legion's electrifying performance began with fiery stomps of the feet, displaying synchronized rhythmic movements. The live audience cheered, while the judges watched in sheer astonishment as the group's dance managed to impress everyone.
Legion's routine contained complex footwork, intense drum beats, whips, and more fire. Heidi clapped to the vibrating music while Terry remarked, "You can feel the heat." After concluding their performance, the dancers burst into tears, witnessing the entire hall standing and applauding for them along with the judges.
Fabian, a member of the group, stated:
"Malambo is life. It's everything for us and this is a big dream for us, an incredible opportunity. Thank you so much."
Howie praised Legion's act, calling it "exciting" and "unexpected." Meanwhile, Heidi expressed her gratitude for introducing her to the Malambo dance style, calling their performance a "treat." Simon said that he can imagine the group performing in Vegas but Sofia disagreed saying she's seen the dance form before, being a South American herself.
While the America's Got Talent audience didn't agree with Sofia's comment, she then dropped the act and commented:
"That was spectacular, I thought it was amazing. I have never seen anything like that and that's exactly why I'm going to do this."
With that being said, Sofia hit the Golden Buzzer, shocking the other America's Got Talent judges. As golden confetti filled the stage, Legion jumped and celebrated with their hands in the air, while the audience cheered for the group.
"This is exactly what we're here for. This is exactly AGT. This might change these guys' lives and I love to be a part of it," judge Sofia added.
Golden Buzzer winner, Legion, thanked everyone before exiting the stage and clicking a picture with Sofia.
