Tammy Slaton, a key figure in the TLC series 1000-lb Sisters, has recently hinted at the possibility of leaving Kentucky. Her statement has prompted fans to speculate about her future on the show, given that the series is primarily filmed in Kentucky.
In a recent episode in season 6, Tammy had an argument with Amanda, which resulted in her getting kicked out of the house where she has been living, owned by Amanda and her ex-husband. She then said,
"This sh*t is not cool no more. She's done crossed too many lines and I'm over it. As far as I care, Amanda is dead to me. I don't have a sister named Amanda anymore... After today, she better not even call me, text me, nothing. I can do much better without her. I don't need Amanda's help."
The living situation has been a point of contention between them, as Tammy has expressed frustrations over the condition of the house and the lack of necessary repairs. Tammy’s frustration with her family dynamics, particularly with Amanda, has led her to consider leaving Kentucky.
Is 1000-lb Sisters' Tammy Slaton leaving Kentucky?
Family dynamics and Tammy's frustrations
The Slaton family has always been the nucleus of 1000-lb Sisters, with a lot of their interpersonal conflicts showcased in the reality series. Tammy and her sister Amanda Halterman, in particular, have been at odds over several issues, some of which reached a boiling point in season 6.
Tammy said she would have liked to move out of Kentucky and get away from her family because she wanted to leave behind their intense drama. She felt that the situation was getting too much for her, so she was thinking about changing locations, to get away from the tensions of her family.
"I never wanted to come home to this," she said.
Though the Slaton family is originally from Indiana, they have lived in Kentucky for an extended period, and the state has served as the backdrop for 1000-lb Sisters since its inception. Tammy's suggestion of leaving Kentucky was significant because it was the first time she publicly highlighted the idea of relocating to avoid her family.
This development has led fans to question whether such a move would affect her participation in the show, as it would present logistical challenges for filming.
Tammy's growing independence
Throughout her journey on 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy has faced significant weight loss challenges. At her heaviest, she weighed over 700 pounds and required substantial assistance from her family to perform daily tasks, such as eating and moving around.
However, with time, Tammy improved on most of her healthcare issues following the weight loss, and she gradually became independent as well. With over 500 pounds lost, according to Tammy, she could manage many more aspects of her everyday life without wholly relying on the family.
This independence has seemingly changed her relationship with her family members. Though she needs emotional support, Tammy has emphasized that her desire for private space and autonomy has increased.
This may have been the reason for her to consider leaving Kentucky, as she emphasized the need for more distance from her family to preserve her independence. Furthermore, her argument with Amanda, who then kicked her out, fueled Tammy's desire to leave the state.
"I feel like Amanda just threw me out of the house like a piece of trash," she said in a 1000-lb Sisters confessional.
