The Challenge has showcased the strength and determination of contestants in the competition. One of the fan-favorite participants, Derrick Kosinski, continued to compete against strong players even after his leg injury. During the elimination challenges, he won against Mark Long and Horacio Gutierrez. However, when it was time for the physical blindfold boxing challenge, Derrick was sent home after Cory beat him.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly on October 9, 2024, The Challange star Derrick Kosinski shared that he was "scared" of his injury getting worse while competing in the game. He said he would have won the competition and saved himself from elimination if his leg hadn't been injured. Kosinski, The Challenge star, said:

"When I was up there on the gladiator challenge with the shields, I'm going up against big, strong, athletic men on a muddy, slippery surface. If two or three of these guys land on me if my knee just snaps? I was scared."

The Challenge star Derrick shares details of his leg injury

In his interview, Derrick shared that participating in physical competitions with a "torn ACL" was difficult for him, but he didn't give up at any stage. Despite accepting that he couldn't compete in the game for long, Derrick realized his fate to "win or lose this elimination" was unclear. He elaborated:

"A blown out, torn ACL — shredded, gone — and torn meniscus. And there was an LCL strain. When you talk about competing on a torn ACL and meniscus, it kept on coming out of place and me having to pop it back in, multiple times, just walking. So I knew that win or lose this elimination, I wasn't going to continue much longer."

The Challange star explained he was scared that he couldn't continue competing during the physical task, shown through his "raw emotions" on screen. While talking about his opponent Cory, Derrick stated he wasn't scared of competing against him in the elimination challenge and pushed himself to channel his full strength. The eliminated contestant mentioned:

"I wasn't scared to go into elimination with Cory though. I had to put my money where my mouth was and just keep coming at him and see what he could bring to the table. Had I had two working legs, I would've won. But it is what it is, and I'm glad I came close."

The Challenge contestant admitted that the competition was tough, making him "scared" as he competed with an injured leg. He reflected on his journey on the show, stating that he and Rachel were the "powerhouse" while completing each task. Derrick mentioned:

"I think that if I didn't mess up my leg, me and Rachel could have carried the torch for a long time there. I felt really good before I had hurt my leg, so I think that me and Rachel would've been a powerhouse going forward. I think I would've won five or six eliminations, get the record in an individual season."

Stream The Challenge exclusively on CBS and Paramount Plus. The upcoming episodes will reveal the fate of all four eras and which contestant will be eliminated next.
